Obama says “NO” to Dream Team but what about McCain and Condi?

March 10th, 2008 Urban Conservative

John McCain and Condi RiceLast week, Hillary hinted about a possible ticket with Barack; and of course the media is painting it as “the dream teamâ€? for democrats. Yet today, Barack Obama rebuked the idea of being Hillary’s running mate as Vice President and said that voters must choose between one of the two for the top spot on the fall ticket. In his words with a slight attitude, “I don’t know how somebody who is in second place is offering the vice presidency to the person who is first place…and I am not running for vice president, I am running for president of the United States of America.” Here is the video.

My take on this is clear. Bring on Hillary and Obama or whoever else. It doesn’t matter who the big cheese is either.  The true dream team is McCain and the democrat’s worst nightmare – Condoleezza Rice. Why you ask? Well, not only is she intelligent, articulate and a hard as nails conservative, but she is also – for those who don’t know – an African American woman. Now for those liberals who read this blog. Tell me how in the hell the democrats can launch negative campaign ads (because we know that’s what they do) against an African American woman and not come across as being racist?  Besides, Condi will destroy both in Obama and/or Hillary in any debate on most topics.  Now, that’s the real talk and the real “dream team.â€?

  • If Condi could just pull 1/4 of the black vote, Obama is sunk.

I don't see it happening though. If he picks Romney I'm going to really have to hold my nose to vote for him. That guy is an empty suit.

I am sooooo into the McCain/Condi ticket. I would love it. People who would not support Condi would NEVER support McCain anyway. It would be awsome for America. She is so smart. She would make a great President.
  • I would definately support that ticket. Condi is awesome!

As a lifetime member of the GOP and an African American woman, McCain/Condi is a great ticket. However, I am afraid that adding her to the ticket will diminish McCain's ability to distance himself from the Bush administration's Irak policies. I am curious to see if other republicans would support the ticket. Of course I would and I think it would energize the base but I am biased.
  • While I admire Secretary Rice, I don't think she'd make a particularly good VP pick for electoral strategy reasons. Plus, I think she's said publicly she won't do it... she probably still wants to be head of the NFL.

I will say this much tho - I'll absolutely be crushed if McCain does something really "out of the box" and picks Sen. Lieberman. I mean - I think Sen. Lieberman is a good guy - I disagree with all of his politics except for his support on Iraq and GWOT - but unless he's had an epiphany and converted parties - putting a solid progressive Liberal on the ticket in the name of "fusion" would be a likely disaster!

hold on.......isn't Hillary running negative advertising about Obama? And apart from 2 instinces that I can think of her campaign hasn't been accused of racism. So of course the democrats could attack Ms.(or is that Mrs.?) Rice legitimately and depending on your opinion score a few points or lose them , whatever.

Peter.......... what are conservative causes? Why not set up a trust who's trustees can only give out money to conservative causes. or....... just die, how about that , please die...... say hi to satan for me:)

  • Obama is articulate, so is Condi. Would a racist really support a black candidate? Conservatives vote based on positions and record, not race.

Barack is so articulate, he's called Slick Barry, just like his predecessor Slick Willy. SlickBarry.com

    @ UrbCon

"What do you want to talk about first?"

Actually wouldn't mind digging into why you keep bashing the left for the same things the right does. Trying to make it sound like only Democrats ever run neg ads makes it look like you have nothing else of substance to bitch about.

That can't possibly be the case...is it?

The very thing you attack Barack on is the same place where Condi is vulnerable. What has she actaully done? She is a Bushie to the bone. She follows orders in the face of obvious failed tactics. Even loyal soldier Colin Powell had sense enough to walk away while he had a shred of dignity and credibility left. All she will do is remind voters of the Bush years....and if you want to put her up there as a black woman to somehow neutralize Barack's race, two words, Alan Keyes. How did that work out?

"I'm sure there must be plenty of things you disagree with that aren't so transparently hypocritical."

Of course there are...his entire voting record, or lack there of. What do you want to talk about first?
  • @ Zachary

While you may be right...his voting record and lack there of is what scares me.

"Tell me how in the hell the democrats can launch negative campaign ads (because we know that’s what they do) against an African American woman and not come across as being racist?"

I'm not sure I agree or disagree with the idea that one side will have problems campaigning "hard" against an African American candidate ... and avoiding the look of racism. But what's up with trying to suggest that negative campaign ads are some sort of Democratic tactic, when we all know that Republicans ran ENDLESS negative ads in '04?

I'm sure there must be plenty of things you disagree with that aren't so transparently hypocritical.
  • Obama: he IS African American, he IS educated, and he IS articulate.

    What else?
  • If I remember correctly, attacks on Condoleezza Rice wouldn't be considered racist, because she's 'white' - the same way that Bill Cosby is 'white,' and Bill Clinton is 'black.' ("First black president" - remember?)

This may, I hope, have changed, but not too many years ago I read about the following. (Details are vague: I didn't record the article or the source.)

At a major American university campus, a panel discussion had been held. The outcome did not reflect doctrinally-correct liberal philosophy.

One student, whose head had somehow remained clear despite prolonged exposure to academia, asked another what he thought of it. The other student replied with something like, 'what do you expect, from a bunch of white people.'

No one on the panel had European ancestry. Most were east Asian, or from the Indian subcontinent, as I recall.

That's when the clear-headed student had one of those 'eureka' moments. The weird statements he'd heard before now made sense.

He'd assumed that "white," in an ethnic sense, meant "European ancestry," probably that part of Europe north of the Alps and Pyrenees.

At that time, in some American sub-cultures, it didn't. "White" meant educable, employable, reasonably articulate, and with a relatively short, or non-existent, criminal record.

By that definition, the members of the panel were unquestionably "white."

And, again by that definition, so is Condoleezza Rice.

I would think that Barak Obama is "black," however, since he has a pc voting record.

To quote one of the clearer minds of the late twentieth century, "What a country!"

Articulate AND intelligent? She's unstoppable! Because, of course, neither Obama, Clinton, or McCain are intelligent or articulate.

    @ Patrick

Yeah, and if she was a democrat, you'd be all over her like white on rice (no pun). Racist punk!
  • Patrick
    Yeah, real dream team.
Condoleeza is incompetent, and thats not racist, thats a fact. She botched her job as NSA, and she hasnt done squat as SoS. The only thing she has done is that she IS African American, she IS educated, and she IS articulate. other than that, she has done nothing of note for any positive reasons.
