ACORN Exposed! Systemic corruption of our election process continues!

October 9th, 2008 Urban Conservative

… and the story continues.  Two Ohio voters, including a Domino’s pizza employee Christopher Barkley, claimed yesterday that they were pressured by ACORN thugs to register and vote several times, even though they made it clear they had already done so.

This comes after ACORN and Project Vote announced the completion of a 21 state voter-registration drive targeting low-income folks (including homeless and convicted felons) in key battleground states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Wisconsin. ACORN has helped register over 1.27 million people nationwide. It gets 40 % of its revenues from taxpayers (yes, you and I), with the rest coming from left-wing groups and chumps like George Soros and Democracy Alliance. Despite his frequent denials of any association with ACORN, Obama is clearly linked to these organizations. For more background on Obama and ACORN linkages, see Stanley Kurtz’s NR piece here, plus City Journal pieces here and here. Also here and here.

Now back to the Dominoes Pizza story …

According to Barkley, he registered to vote 10 to 15 times after being pressured by the ACORN thugs, whose political wing has endorsed Obama for President. Here are more of his comments:

I kept getting approached by folks who asked me to register … they’d ask me if I was registered. I’d say yes, and they’d ask me to do it [register] again … some of them were getting paid to collect names. That was their sob story, and I bought it.

Barkley is one of at least three people who have been subpoenaed by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as part of a wider inquiry into possible voter fraud by ACORN.

Perhaps it’s time to shut down ACORN?

Again UC, I'm not against suppressing anyone's voice or anything like that, but the last time I was on this website was mid June... i think... and this assclown who cant stick with a fuckin name is still on here even though no one responds, positively or negatively to his comments. That is unreal. This guy is fuckin hilarious. He sounds stupider than the super libs running around madison telling me to vote for obama. At least when I was on this website daily, people at least responded to me, even though it was to call me a dumbass. I haven't looked at all the articles since June, but I bet that no one has ever responded to this guy (you all know who I am talking about--- the one that no one can understand.) And UC, if it makes you feel any  better about one voter or a former contributer to your website, I went to a HIGHLY left wing school and I dont know who I want to vote for anymore.

Questions, oh conservative pillars of integrity?  I have a couple: namely, where the party whose theft of the last two Presidential elections is documented fact gets off accusing Democrats of voter fraud.

Oh, by the way?  To reiterate Joe the Plumber's incisive point: registering fictitious persons to vote has absolutely no effect unless those persons also actually VOTE.  The voter registration fraud being perpetrated by ACORN employees is just that - an attempt by EMPLOYEES of the organization to get paid for registrations that were never filled out.  ACORN flags all such registrations that they consider suspect, but is - as toe already pointed out - bound by law to submit them all nonetheless.  To empower any organization to weed out voter registrations it "suspected were fake" would no doubt result in widespread electoral fraud - electoral fraud we've not seen since, you know, 2004.

But as I was saying, your accusation implies not only that ACORN is registering fictitious voters, but that somewhere - in a shadowy citadel, perhaps, where cauldrons boil and dark magics flare - this criminal cabal has a massive counterfeiting operation creating IDs, SSNs, and voter registration cards for these fictitious human beings, enabling them to legitimately vote.  Do you seriously suggest ACORN is doing that?
  • toe
again, Russell- the facts do not match your statements.  go educate yourself.
  • Russell
    Toe,

Your delusions are actually funny. ACORN can and will do everything in their power to affect the vote. If you are crazy enough to believe that all the allegations are innocent and it is only a few bad apples, whatever. But to try to push off all of the problems on McCain is not gonna work. Nobody is gonna buy that line of pookey. ACORN is fradulently registering people and non-people. Then they are gonna take the list of fradulent registrants, bribe people to memorize the SSN numbers (as they don't have to show ID) and cast fradulent ballots. You know it and I know it. 59 my happy humpty dumpty.

my goodness, max- what a bitter Limbaugh listener and uninformed man you are.  ("drive-by media"  is a Rush term)
First, it was McCain who injected the infamous "Joe" to try and prove how Obama's plan would effect this poor, poor,  would-be "small business owner."
Obama correctly pointed out that, under Obama's proposals, dear "Joe" would actually benefit.
Since "Joe" made such an appearance in the debate, ALL news media- made it a point to find out about "Joe- only to learn that he was not a certified plumber, did not have the means to purchase the business nor the intent,   had back taxes owned, and his name isn't  even "Joe". Additionally, it was found that "Joe" would, in fact, benefit greatly under Obama's proposals, yet "Joe" still would not vote for Obama.  So, the fact is, that "Joe" has other issues- one of which is social security which he wants abandoned.  For McCain to point out poor, poor "Joe"  as being the victim here by the horrible "liberal media" is utter nonsense.
ACORN will continue to be the object of your misguided negativity, "max", because you refuse to look at the facts.  ACORN cannot effect the voting.  ACORN does not encourage registration fraud.  ACORN- BY LAW- must turn in all registrations.  As a matter of policy, ACORN red-flags those which they suspect to be fraudulent.
Even if...IF an extra name remains on the voter registration list- any new registration requires identification at the polls.  Any actual voter fraud actually found since 2000-2005 regarding an illegal vote cast numbered around 59- these cases were prosecuted.
If you were really concerned about Americans being disenfranchised, or voter fraud- you are not going to find it through ACORN- go read: John McCain's campaign has directed $175,000 to the firm of a Republican operative accused of massive voter registration fraud in several states.
According to campaign finance records, a joint committee of the McCain-Palin campaign, the RNC and the the California Republican Party, made a $175,000 payment to the group Lincoln Strategy in June for purposes of "registering voters." The  managing partner of that firm
is Nathan Sproul, a renowned GOP operative who has been investigated on multiple occasions for suppressing Democratic voter turnout, throwing away registration forms and even spearheading efforts
to get Ralph Nader on ballots to hinder the Democratic ticket.

In a letter  to the Justice Department last October, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said that that Sproul's alleged activities "clearly suppress votes and violate the law."

try...try to inform yourself "max" - it's all out there- actual facts...waiting to be read.  if you depend upon Rush to bring you these, don't hold your breath.  It's not going to happen.   If you rely on his words, you are already pointed backwards.  take it upon yourself to get informed.
  • I am afraid to comment on ACORN, because like joe the plumber, if you speak the truth about Obama, the drive-by-media & TOE come after you. I just hope that Mickey Mouse and Dallas cowboys vote republican because I am struggling to distribute my own wealth and would rather not have it purchasing Iranian Caviar, Lobster, and champaigne at 4pm in the afternoon from someone who claims theyre "down with the struggle" and "from the hood". The whole thing is so laughable and all the little Obama lock-steppers who invision the brave new world under our most gracious messiah Obama, hallowed be thy name

John McCain's campaign has directed $175,000 to the firm of a Republican operative accused of massive voter registration fraud in several states.
According to campaign finance records, a joint committee of the McCain-Palin campaign, the RNC and the the California Republican Party, made a $175,000 payment to the group Lincoln Strategy in June for purposes of "registering voters." The managing partner of that firm is Nathan Sproul, a renowned GOP operative who has been investigated on multiple occasions for suppressing Democratic voter turnout, throwing away registration forms and even spearheading efforts to get Ralph Nader on ballots to hinder the Democratic ticket.
In a letter to the Justice Department last October, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said that that Sproul's alleged activities "clearly suppress votes and violate the law."
That Sproul would come under the employment umbrella of the McCain campaign -- the Republican National Committee has also separately paid Lincoln Strategy at least $37,000 for voter registration efforts this cycle -- is not terribly surprising. Sproul, who has donated nearly $30,000 to McCain's campaign, has been in the good graces of GOP officials for the past decade despite charges of ethical and potentially legal wrongdoing.
But his involvement with the Republican Party's voter registration efforts has the potential to create a political and public relations headache at a time when McCain can ill-afford one. For weeks the Arizona Republican and his allies have been seeking to tie Barack Obama to the community organization ACORN, which they have accused of potentially committing massive voter registration fraud. Sproul's contract with the GOP ticket -- in addition to news of Republican officials attempting to suppress Democratic turnout in California -- raises, for some, questions about McCain's own efforts.
"It should certainly take away from McCain's argument," said Bob Grossfeld, a progressive political consultant based in Arizona who has followed Sproul's career. "Without knowing anything of what is going on with ACORN, there is a clear history with Mr. Sproul either going over the line or sure as hell kicking dirt on it, and doing it for profit and usually fairly substantive profit."
As Republican Congressman Chris Cannon summarized during a joint hearing for the subcommittee on commercial and administrative law back in May 2008: "The difference between ACORN and Sproul is that ACORN doesn't throw away or change registration documents after they have been filled out."
Indeed, Sproul's history is filled with allegations of political misdeeds. During the 2004 election, Sproul & Associates (the former name of Lincoln Strategy) was accused of attempting to destroy forms collected by Democratic voters in Nevada. That same year in Oregon, Sproul & Associates allegedly instructed canvassers to only accept Republican registration forms in addition to destroying those turned in by Democrats.

I would like to think this will not affect the election.  however, money talks and Obama has given Acorn $800K from his campaign to register voters and we don't know where the rest of the money is coming from.   There was a young lady from Acorn being interviewed the other day who admitted to getting people registered and telling them to vote for Obama.  She seemed proud of it even when they told her it was not right to do that.  They asked her several times and she kept repeating that she did try to influence the vote.  So, how many more people are doing this and why does Obama's name keep popping up connected to bad organizations and people?  i would normally not read too much into things since everyone is entitled to mistakes in their careers but this has gotten out of hand.
  • Folks - While this is a shame indeed, it does not and can not affect the election.  Even if a false name is registered, they wont be able to vote.  Come on people - the ACORN scandal is a joke and WILL NOT affect the election.

    Gentlepeople,

There is a widely-held misunderstanding that I believe needs to be straightened out in order to keep this discussion constructive.  The misunderstanding is a confusion between the terms “voter registration fraud” and “voter fraud.”  The two things are very different.  Voter fraud would better be termed “electoral fraud,” so that the two kinds of fraud don’t sound so much alike.

To illustrate just how widespread the confusion is, here’s a typical example.   Lauren Ingraham of Fox News uniformly used the words “voter fraud” regarding ACORN’s efforts in Ohio when she was discussing voter registration fraud [1].  She also spoke of “200,000 questionable ballots” in Ohio, when in fact only 13,141 ballots were cast early by same-day registrants [2] -- she clearly was discussing the 200,000 questionable registrations.

I suggest that keeping clear the distinction between voter registration fraud and voter fraud, and between registrations and ballots, will make this thread more informative and useful to everyone.

    Best to all,

    Tim

John McCain is not selling anything.  Barrack Obama is selling BS all day  everyday.  his economic policies will not work and that can easily be proven and him sitting on the sidelines in this economic debacle made him look weak--not presidental.  John McCain did accomplish something when he went to Washington.  He got 60 more republican representatives on board once he got there (some folks from both sides acknowledge this) and didn't tell the american people that congress would call him if he was needed.  hopefully we won't have another 911 but if we do, i want a experienced president who knows what to do and will not be afraid to roll up his sleeves and get involved and not from the sidelines.  Obama's response to this recent crisis proves that he will make a stand only if it is the popular thing to do in his party.  I don't care for politicians that are only good speakers and there is no substance behind Obama.  He has not sponsored many major bills in the senate but has been a part of several small ones and has not gone against his party on one major issue.  If people really pay attention to the economy and understand the whole impact of both plans, they do not need to be "convinced" because the writing is on the wall.  I have never been hired by a poor person and we are in a global economy not just the US economy.

States’ Actions to Block Voters Appear Illegal

Tens of thousands of eligible voters in at least six swing states have been removed from the rolls or have been blocked from registering in ways that appear to violate federal law, according to a review of state records and Social Security data by The New York Times.

States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and remove the names of voters who should no longer be listed; but for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, a review of the records shows.
The six swing states seem to be in violation of federal law in two ways. Michigan and Colorado are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.
In addition to the six swing states, three more states appear to be violating federal law. Alabama and Georgia seem to be improperly using Social Security information to screen registration applications from new voters. And Louisiana appears to have removed thousands of voters after the federal deadline for taking such action.
In three states — Colorado, Louisiana and Michigan — the number of people purged from the election rolls since Aug. 1 far exceeds the number who may have died or relocated during that period.
States may be improperly removing voters who have moved within the state, election experts said, or who are considered inactive because they have failed to vote in two consecutive federal elections. For example, major voter registration drives have been held this year in Colorado, which has also had a significant population increase since the last presidential election, but the state has recorded a net loss of nearly 100,000 voters from its rolls since 2004.
In Michigan, some 33,000 voters were removed from the rolls in August, a figure that is far higher than the number of deaths in the state during the same period — about 7,100 — or the number of people who moved out of the state — about 4,400, according to data from the Postal Service.

@ J_Con: who is the party for the poor? Certainly not the democratic party, though they put up a good show as if they really care about the homeless.
Colorado now has a Democratic Governor, Democratic Legislature, and Denver has a Democratic Mayor, which all hosted the Democratic National Convention in August.

You'd think that tens of thousands of Democrats would be a blessing for the homeless. NOT! The homeless were cleaned up off the streets, out of sight to Democratic visitors.........

This idea of charity and concern for the underprivelaged is becoming humorous. The leftist illuminati essentially views them as a source of cheap labor (re: votes) to shoehorn them into the right office to complete their own, personal agendas.
  • We need a third party, or we should all grab pitchforks and torches, storm the gates and drag their sorry butts out kicking and screaming.  Ill be damned if  Obama's gonna spread my wealth to people who dont deserve the fruits of my labor
  • Not surprisingly it turns out that Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Father Michael Pfleger - two radical clergy closely associated with Obama - have extensive ties to ACORN
Amazing how the deeper you dig the pieces just start fitting together.  Where do you guys come up with these gems, Carter, Clinton, Mondale, Dukakis, John Edwards, Hilary Clinton.......bunch a real winners. Ha ha- I was reading your list and I thought that I read a "prohibitionist".  Pot should be legal.  I agree.  Either that or alcohol and tobacco should be illegal- what would that do to Wall Street?

McCain is a swing candidate!  Obama is a Democratic candidate.  I think he will win.  If he doesn't, well it's egg on my face and I will have to endure the 12 steps of mourning like I did in 2004.  Except this time, my fears about Bush have come true and now I'm just praying for someone to clean it all up.
  • ameriken
harrysmom..........prohibitionist? Hah! You must have missed my remark in post 15 :-[)  Limiting our freedoms is a step in the wrong direction. I am against smoking bans in private establishments (and I am a non-smoker), and I think pot should be legalized.
Anyhow, as for McCain selling his ideas..........I don't know, do you vote party or person? There is a segment of the population that votes along party lines and always defends their candidate as being perfect and the other candidate as evil. Neither McCain nor Obama can sell their ideas to those folks.

It always comes down to the swing voter who votes the person, not the party....and McCain has some work to do with that voter.  He has done a lousy job campaigning.......because McCain is more matched to the swing voter than he is the Republican party.
  • harrysmom
I'm sorry to hear that Ameriken, but that's what great about our country I guess.  We can agree to disagree.

I just came back from a rally where Bill Clinton spoke.  The man is an egomaniac, but damn is a good leader.  Anyone can complain all they want about whatever they want but we were left with a record budget surplus and a strong economy.

He addressed the economy and said roughly what you said above.  He said that a president's most important role is to assess any situation, gather the best think tank on the subject that is possible, lead them into a solution that everyone can live with, and then sell it to the public.  He said "I know that everything that I did in office was not the most popular, but sometimes you have to do the unpopular thing, sell it, and hope it works."  He then went on to say that our next president will have to make some very tough choices and will not only have to sell it, but must get the American people on board, because they will be part of the solution to many of our problems.  I think that summed it up fairly well.

If you are choosing a third party person, please avoid the prohibitionist. :)  But remember that no matter how you choose, one of the two is going to be the president.  Do you really believe that McCain will be able to "sell" me and the other liberals out there to get on board with whatever plan he's got?  I don't think so.
  • ameriken
harrysmom.......for reasons other than the rhetoric, mantras, and popular reasons being pitched by both candidates, I went with McCain. I've followed both campaigns, voting records, flip flops, lies and distortions, fear tactics, and to me, each has their positives and negatives, as would anyone. Both have led less than honorable campaigns, and I am not impressed by the fear tactics they've thrown at each other. I don't believe anyone should really 'fear' either candidate in office. But I am also doubtful that either is truly capable of leading the country.  A tell tale sign was the economic 'cricis' of the past few weeks. This was an excellent opportunity for these two to stand out to the American people, bring both parties together, and pave the way toward a solution. What a couple of duds. Neither played a 'leading role' in the bailout, and neither of them was willing to go against the bailout either.

Considering all the events occuring with the economy, including the dive in the DOW, I would expect both of them to say they may have to suspend their tax cuts, suspend their spending plans, and focus on the economy, balancing the budget, and attacking the deficit.

I think if either of these two were true leaders, they would speak the truth.......'we are in a f'ing mess and we are all going to have to sacrifice to get out of it, and all tax cuts and other promises must be put on hold'.

Further, I am thoroughly disgusted with the impotence, corruption, and partisanship in both parties, disgusted with the polarization from their followers, and I think these two parties are more poisonous to this country than good.

I am leaning more and more toward looking at third party candidates, and nearly voted for one.

    Hey Ameriken, who'dya pick?  lol
Dear Lord- it's amazing what people will do just to make a point.  Nader, for example, will go down in history as the great "point maker."  Unfortunately, he has done so many more important things.  Oh well.  I say we get a keg and forget the whole thing.  That will fix the economy, and if it doesn't, then at least we will all have a buzz (*except Amondson).
  • harrysmom
Toe, I agree with your opinions, except McCain did have a lead bat, which comes in the form of George W. Bush and his economy.  He's not a favorite in his own party, so there's few GOP reps (other than the ones they pay) out there stumping.  I'm heading to hear Bill Clinton tonight in Richmond and there's an expected crowd of 30,000!  Sooo exciting!  John McCain is definitely batting with the sun in his eyes and the wind in his face- but he's got a lead bat and his pitcher is Babe Ruth.  He is the proverbial toast.

Registration fraud is not the same as voter fraud.  Registration fraud, if not caught, produces phony names on voter roles, nothing more.  Voter fraud produces illegal votes.  Both are and should be illegal, but they are two entirely diffrent things.
In order to help 1.3 million people register to vote, ACORN hired more than 13,000 registration assistance workers .  As with any business or agency that operates at this scale, there are always some people who want to get paid without really doing the job, or who aim to defraud their employer.  Any large department store will have some workers who shoplift.
Any large voter registration operation will have a small percentage of workers who turn in bogus registration forms, Their goal clearly is not to cast a fraudulent vote.  It is simply to defraud their employer, ACORN, by getting a paycheck without earning it. ACORN is the victim of this fraud - not the perpetrator.
In nearly every case that has been reported, it was ACORN that discovered the bad forms, and called them to the attention of election authorities, putting the forms in a package that identified them in writing as suspicious, encouraging election officials to investigate, and offering to help with prosecutions.  ACORN is required by law to turn in all forms, but instead of just turning them in and figuring that it is the responsibility of the board of elections to figure out which are valid, ACORN spend millions of dollars verifying that forms are valid, and then separate out those that are suspicious. They are "red-flagged".
This has nothing to do with "voter fraud" - nothing at all to do with anyone trying to cast an extra vote.  There has never been a single reported instance in which bogus registration forms have led to anyone voting improperly.  To do that, they would have to show up at the polls, prove their identity as all first-time registrants must, and risk jail. The people who turned in these forms did so not because they wanted an extra vote, but because they didn't care enough to make sure eligible people got to vote at all.
When a department store calls the police to report a shoplifting employee, no one says the department store is guilty of consumer fraud.  But for some reason, when ACORN turns voter registration workers over to the authorities for filling out bogus forms, it gets accused of "voter fraud."  This is a classic case of blaming the victim; indeed, these charges are  outrageous, libelous, and often politically motivated.
Similar attacks were launched against ACORN and other voter registration organizations in 2004 and 2006. The bogus charges were at the heart of  the U.S. Attorney-gate scandal that led to the resignations of Karl Rove, Attorney General Ablerto Gonzales and other top Justice Department Officials.  It turned out that it was the charges that were fraudulent, and that they were part of a systematic partisan agenda of voter suppression. Republican US Attorneys David Iglesias (NM), Todd Graves (MO), and John McKay (WA) all were fired primarily because they refused to prosecute similar bogus charges of "voter fraud."  Another US Attorney, Bradley Schlozman, who did politicize prosecutions against former ACORN canvassers, was forced to acknowledge under cross examination by the Senate Judiciary Committee that ACORN was the victim of fraud by its employees and ACORN had caught the employees and had identified them to law enforcement.
The goals of the people orchestrating these attacks are to distract ACORN from helping people vote and to justify massive voter suppression.  That's the real voter fraud; the noise about a small fraction of the forms ACORN has turned in is meant to get the press and public take their eyes off the real threat, while those hurling the charges are stealing people's right to vote in broad daylight.  They have already tried to prevent Ohio from registering voters at its early voting sites.  In Michigan, they planned to use foreclosure notices to challenge thousands of voters. And if this year is like past years, they are preparing to use this so-called voter fraud to justify massive challenges to voters in minority precincts on Election Day.
The fact that this host has joined in the effort of the right wing's last ditch efforts to steal the election will not fly.  Your time is up.  It's the bottom of the ninth, you are down 4 runs, Palin was just picked off first base and McCain is down in the count with the sun in his eyes and batting against the wind...even with a corked bat and knowing what pitch will be thrown, McCain cannot get a handle on the game.

Percy dear,  does your mother know that you are playing on the computer?
Your "toe-jam" comment is neither funny nor new.  I don't really care if you wish to put your child-like efforts out there,  but you add nothing constructive to the conversaton.
Perhaps it's past your nap-time.  This can be addressed easily.

The GOP is facing the largest defeat in recent history- not just the office of the Presidency, but every single seat in the US Congress is up for election- there are 35 Senate seats up for election.
The corruption, bad judgment, and the dreadful absence of good governing demonstrated by the Bush administration has placed a negative spotlight on the GOP...coupled with the failures of the Bush bunch you are now seeing the full failures of "Reagonomics" and "voodoo economics"  along with the idea-balloon popping on one of conservative's favorites: de-regulation.  The essence of this has created an 86% disapproval rating from the American people regarding the direction of this country.
McCain is a representative of all that has gone wrong.  His party did this.  He can call "maverick" all day long but his record says otherwise.  He is the past.
In order to save himself, he and the GOP have tried everything under the sun to keep people from looking at the (R) that follows their name.  In some states, Republicans have petitioned to have "GOP"  rather than (R) on the ballots with the hope that this will save them.  It won't.
The McCain campaign - all of their spokespersons, all of his supporters like to point out that Obama has voted 95% of the time with his party.  Well, duh!  Actually, we thank you for pointing this out.
Your feeble attempt to connect Obama with ACORN and voter fraud is exactly that: feeble.
Civic organizations are required by law to turn over ANY signed voter registration applications even when they are known to have problems.  ACORN's canvassers are hired to work set hour shifts and are paid based on the number of shifts they work, not on the number of applications they collect.  Most of the registrations they have collected and turned in to election officials come from young people, low income people and minorities—the very people whose voices are too often left out of our electorate.
Voter registration has been a primary focus for the Obama campaign...to get people involved in the process of government.  Those of you who like to thump their chest, point to their flag pin, and wave the flag calling themselves "real Americans"  yet oppose people's right to vote need to sit down and look at their phony selves.

dumbness aside, I know a few people who work for Acorn.  It's a good organization that does do some very good work, and I think it's great that Obama is supportive of them.  I know that they have been working hard to register people- and yes, it's clearly because they want to increase the likelihood of new voters voting for Obama.  But what's wrong with that?  Getting out the vote to win an election is the American way- right?

However, this business with the fake registrations is just embarrassing.  One guy that I know was handing out a flyer on campus trying to hire students to do registrations for $15 an hour, plus additional money for registering more people.  They do it in teams so there are controls.  It's clear that some of these teams cheated in order to get money and now it's coming out and making Acorn look really bad.

Acorn is partly responsible for possibly not vetting their workers better, but on the other hand, they are the victims of greedy employees who cheated them.

Don't make more out of this than necessary- please.  It's so negative and this campaign is ugly enough as it is.

    Fox News national poll--Obama +7
    Newsweek national poll--Obama +11
    Gallup national poll--Obama +10

I can smell desperation in the air. And the negative attacks are naked and obvious, nowhere near as effective as Swiftboat, and driving more and more independents to Obama. It's time to come to terms, my knuckledragging friends, with your next Democratic president.

  • Obama's campaign has donated over $800,000 to ACORN this year.  Most of it was given to Ohio to fund voter registration efforts.  Is that enough to link Obama to ACORN?  I have a post on it at my blog.  www.therightwing.net

NOTE: From 1993 To 2002, Barack Obama Served On The Board Of Directors For The Woods Fund. (Tim Novak and Fran Spielman, "Obama Helped Ex-Boss Get $1 Mil. From Charity," Chicago Sun-Times, 11/29/07)

Obama: "I’ve been fighting alongside Acorn on issues you care about my entire career…" (Steven Malanga, "Organizer In Chief," [New York] City Journal, Summer 2008)

From the lips of the messiah himself....

My question is why, if he is sooo far ahead in all the polls, do he and his pals at ACORN feel the need to steal the election?? Is it that maybe something else is going to come out??? Something that will tighten the race??
    You decide.

Discredited Republican voter-suppression guru Ken Blackwell is attacking Barack Obama with naked lies about his supposed connection to ACORN.

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN community organizer.
Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.
Fact: ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.

In his capacity as an attorney, Barack represented ACORN in a successful lawsuit alongside the U.S. Department of Justice against the state of Illinois to force state compliance with a federal voting access law. For his work helping enforce the law, called “Motor Voter,” Barack received the IVI-IPO Legal Eagle Award in 1995. (For more about Barack’s career, check out our Obama bio.)

Ken Blackwell is best known today for disenfranchising Democratic voters in his dual role as Ohio Secretary of State and chair of George Bush’s Ohio campaign in 2004. To see him shed crocodile tears for the integrity of the vote while making accusations about Barack and ACORN with absolutely no basis in fact is disturbing.

Blackwell’s attacks against ACORN and community organizers continue a vile Republican pattern of mockery and viciousness against this noble profession. Community organizers are the very individuals Republicans should be celebrating for helping people to help themselves rather than depending on the government.
