As Conservatives, can we really support McCain?

I want to start off by telling everyone how happy I am to be talking to a new audience. I have been blogging on myspace for a couple years now with a pretty good following, but nothing compares when you can branch off into that new arena, where people may have never heard of you before. Before I get started on this topic, which I am sure everyone has on their minds since John McCain became the Republican nominee, I want to tell you a little about me.
I am just a small town boy from outside Pittsburgh, PA. I am a college student studying History and Journalism, with one more year to complete. I plan on attending Law School when I am done. I have thought many hours about which one I would like to attend, but still have not come up with a good answer. I am also an author. My first book, YOUNG CONSERVATIVE: VIEWS OF A COLLEGE CONSERVATIVE was published back in January of this year and has really been a better seller than I had ever hoped it would be. People are starting to realize there are young people like my self out there, with a good head on their shoulders and want to pass on the Conservative values so they never die out. This is why I write. This is why I do what I do. I do not write like Mr. Hannity or anyone else. I try to keep it simple yet fun to read. I never go to a publisher unless I can read through the book and not put myself to sleep. I plan on being a face that people will recognize in the years to come when it comes to politics, and I will be a name that comes up in conversation when it comes to young Conservatism in this country. But for right now, let us stay on track and talk about our nominee for the Presidency.
[1] John MCain is a person that I never thought I would ever have to support for this office. he was always so far to the center, I never in a million years thought that the Republican people of this country would ever elect him as the nominee. So, writing this piece comes as a shock to me. There are many issues where I just flat out disagree with John McCain, and I believe he knows that many Conservative Republicans out there are just like me. I believe he knows that he must win us over so we do not stay home and hand this election over to the Democrats, who are in more trouble than ever right now. John McCain is our nominee, but should we even support his run at all?
Of course we should! If and when you read my book, you will see real Conservative principles outlined for the way this country needs to be run in the future. You will also see that I have a very open mind, and that I suppose leads me to support a man like John McCain. He is the most qualified to do this job at this moment in time, and the Democratic challengers do not even come close to where McCain is when it comes to experience. I hate to make this sound like I am chosing the lesser of three evils here, because I am not. I could choose, like many Americans have threatened, to just stay at home in November and make a statement. This country needs more than a John McCain right now, but with the right people behind him, I am confident he will make a very upstanding President, one that we will be able to be proud of.
I know some of you are asking yourselves how could we support a man that teamed up with Ted Kennedy to sail this nation down the river? That question ran through my mind all day as I thought of what to write for this piece. We all have to be confident that this man, a war veteran that was willing to give his life, a man with nothing but good things to say about when it comes to working problems out, will do the right thing when the American people stand up and speak their minds. He has promised us that he will close the border before doing anything else with the issue of the illegals that are here now, and even though that is not reasuring, it is something that we can build on as a nation. If McCain will not push for Amnesty when he is elected, but instead will actually close the border like we have been promised for the past so many years, he will have done more for the problem than any other of our Presidents had done in the past. Obviously, it is not ALL up to him, but he will have the final say when the next Amnesty bill is put in front of him. he will have to veto it, or lose the support of the people who are beleiving in him right now!
Plato once wrote “Democracy… is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder; and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequals alike.” This form of government that we hold so dear to us is not without its problems, but yet it is the best government in the world. No, we do not agree with John McCain 100% of the time, as we never agree with anyone 100% of the time. This “charming” form of government that Plato writes about does not come along without its problems and without disagreement. This country was founded by men who did not agree on everything at the same time. BUT, they did agree on one thing, and that was they deserved to be a free nation. Today, we look at John McCain and we say that we do not agree with everything he has to say, but when it comes to the War on Terror and the War in Iraq, we know he is right on the money. I would rather have McCain in the White House protecting our freedoms than Hillary or Obama giving them away for peace that cannot be secured. We are in troubled time in this country and throughout the world, and we need a man who has the guts to stand up against tyrants who will not back down. And for that reason, we all should stand behind John McCain and give him our full support.
I leave you with another quote from Plato, which I want you all to think about before you read my next piece. Plato says “Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.” Pick the man who will keep that Liberty, even for only one more day!
