Why I am voting Democrat, part two

September 30th, 2008 Urban Conservative

In addition to a post I wrote back in June, here are a few more reasons why I have decided to vote for Senator Barack Obama in this year’s election. He is a really cool guy.  I mean, who cares about his past, his beliefs or his political experience.  And besides, all the Hollywood celebrities are endorsing him and I totally allow them to influence my voting decisions!

On a serious note. This video is BRILLIANT! Please watch and pass on! You can donate to the cause here.

The Ralph Nader Campaign Releases Commentary in the VoterWatch Media Player

September 29th, 2008 Billy Hallowell

By Billy Hallowell for VoterWatch

Over the past week, we’ve been talking about the wide range of commentators who have partnered with VoterWatch for the 2008 Presidential Debates Project.  Already, we’ve posted commentary in the VoterWatch media player from Dick Morris, Brett Winterble of CovertRadio and the Bob Barr for President team.  Now, we are ready to release official commentary from the Ralph Nader/Matt Gonzalez campaign.

Aside from providing us with commentary, the Nader team offered up some editorial thoughts about Friday’s debate.  When it comes to analyzing McCain and Obama, Nader encouraged individuals to focus more on “what won” rather than “who won.”  This is an intriguing take when it comes to the partisan divide that often centers upon the politicians themselves, rather than the issues that are and are not discussed during presidential debates.  Here are Nader’s words:

Always ask after you watch a debate, not who won, but what lost and what won.

Militarism won.
Boondoggle star wars won.
Corruption won.
Corporate crime won.
Bailouts for Wall Street won.
Nuclear power won.
Aggressive NATO won.
What Lost?
Peace advocates lost.
Consumers lost.
Workers lost.

Solar energy really lost.

These two candidates are really afraid of challenging corporate power.
It’s our job to make them more afraid of the people than big business.

Now, let’s explore interactive commentary from Toby Nelson of the Nader/Gonzalez team:

Who won the first 2008 Presidential Debate, McCain or Obama?

September 26th, 2008 Urban Conservative

So Drudge is running a poll right now and McCain is blowing Obama out of the water.  Out of 118,000 votes 69% have voted that McCain won tonight’s CNN Presidential Debate.  They battled over federal spending, taxes, the economy, Afghanistan, and the war in Iraq. Who do you think won and why? Chime in.

UPDATE — here is what Kissinger really said:

Kissinger: “Well, I am in favor of negotiating with Iran. And one utility of negotiation is to put before Iran our vision of a Middle East, of a stable Middle East, and our notion on nuclear proliferation at a high enough level so that they have to study it. And, therefore, I actually have preferred doing it at the secretary of state level so that we — we know we’re dealing with authentic…”

Let’s get ready to rumble: The Obama and McCain debate is on!

September 26th, 2008 Urban Conservative

Just saw this on the news.  Senator John McCain has just ended three days of suspense and announced  this morning that he will leave the negotiations in Washington and make his way to the University of Mississippi for tonight’s presidential debate. This comes after McCain said that he would suspend his campaign until an agreement was reached on the administration’s $700 billion mortgage proposal.

Apparently, no such agreement has yet been reached, but Republicans said the standoff was hurting McCain’s campaign, and he didn’t show up at the debate tonight while Barack Obama was eagerly ready to go toe to toe. Here is the full text of the statement:

The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the senator will travel to the debate this afternoon. Following the debate, he will return to Washington to ensure that all voices and interests are represented in the final agreement, especially those of taxpayers and homeowners.

I am not sure how I feel about this, but these are the facts.

David Letterman is still butt hurt and who the hell cares!

September 25th, 2008 Urban Conservative

Day two and David Letterman still has his panties wet about McCain’s cancellation. New flash schmuck – the economic crisis is more important than your bullsh#$ late night show; and just because you aren’t affected by the current financial conditions doesn’t mean that it’s not a problem.  He then had the nerve to bring in MSNBC’s “Countdown” host and another left wing schmuck — Keith Olbermann.

Of course, Letterman’s ego was even more damaged when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Wednesday — and even more perturbed to learn that McCain didn’t leave New York until Thursday.  I actually think it’s funny and I wish the McCain camp would stand up for themselves.

And then … and then the hideous Joy Behar of the View had to open her fat mouth today and express her worthless point of view on the matter. Yes, Joy Behar does suck; and David Letterman sucks too.

On a side note, I can’t wait to see An American Carol. I am in need of a really good laugh. I was invited to see a sneak preview and post a review about it online, but I was away on business. Darn.

Biden Admits Anti-McCain Ad "Terrible"

September 23rd, 2008 Billy Hallowell

While no presidential campaign is innocent when it comes to trading jabs, the recent Obama ad that targeted John McCain’s inability to use a computer set a new low for standards and political sportsmanship.  In the ad, the Obama campaign painted McCain as “out of touch” and painfully unable to operate computer technology.

In formulating the ads, the Obama campaign thought it would be clever to tie together outdated imagery (a picture of McCain from the 1980s with large glasses and an out-of-style suite, a disco ball and other such images) with accompanying words about the economy, tax cuts and other Republican positions on important economic issues.  In the end, the overarching goal was to tie McCain to Bush, thus showing that McCain’s policies and world view do not jive with contemporary realities.  But, the method of reaching this conclusion and the words used to do so are unsettling and unbelievably insensitive:

1982, John McCain goes to Washington. “Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn’t. He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an e-mail, still doesn’t understand the economy, and favors two hundred billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class…

Why would a legitimate presidential candidate authorize an advertisement that makes fun of one’s literal disability?  McCain’s physical inability to use a computer has been published in the past.  The Obama campaign must have assumed that the American people would be too inept to know that McCain’s past war injuries prevent him from regularly using computers.  Or, the campaign was simply so desperate to regain a lead in the polls that it sunk to such subhuman levels.

John McCain cannot lift his arms high enough to comb his own hair, let alone sit at a computer desk and endure the unbelievable pains it would take for him to string together a few typed sentences.  Thus, making fun of this makes Obama a political playground bully — a title both candidates pledged they wouldn’t hold during this presidential campaign.  Sure, both campaigns have told half-truths and distortions in their political advertisements, but this targeting of a well-known disability is disheartening and wrong-headed on all counts.

And while I am no fan of Joe Biden, his statements on the matter are quite intriguing.  Even Biden believes that the computer ad went way too far.  When asked about the matter in an interview with Katie Couric he said the following:

“I thought that was terrible, by the way.  I didn’t know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we’d have never done it.”

At least there’s someone in the Obama camp who has the integrity to speak the truth.  Forget worrying about the “teaching sex ed to kindergartners” issue; Obama seems to have a “let’s make fun of those who are disabled or less fortunate” mantra brewing.  Anything to win the presidency, I suppose.

The Democrat Party: The racist party of tolerance might hurt Obama’s chances

September 22nd, 2008 Urban Conservative

Sadly, deep-seated racial perceptions may cost Obama the Presidency if the election is close according to a recent poll that found that 1/3 of white Democrats have negative views toward blacks — many calling them “lazy,” “violent,” responsible for their own problems.

I find this to be personally insulting as many of my close friends are African American and they are not “lazy” and “violent” and take full responsibility for their “problems” - whatever that means.  The Democrat Party positions themselves as being change agents and scream “tolerance” at the top of their lunges every chance they get. This poll does beg the question of the true nature of the Democrat Party.  Yes, we know they are for the people … for the middle class … just not the black ones.

This clearly contradicts the “If Obama isn’t elected you are all racists!” dogma we’ve been hearing by the left; but isn’t it the left that has accused conservatives of racism all these years? I don’t get it.

I want Obama to lose this election, sincerely. Not because he is black though. Rather, I want him to lose because I don’t hold to his values and his shallow liberal voting record; and he is clearly not qualified to lead this country.

Obama tells supporters – Argue and get in their face

September 18th, 2008 Urban Conservative

And I say, bring it on!

I am always up for a good brawl. It kind of reminds me of when I went to Berkeley last year to protest the insanity of Code Pink and their quest to kick out my beloved Marines from their recruiting station. Those chicks were not afraid to get in our faces, that’s for sure! It also reminds me of the anti-war rallies in San Francisco where the libs chant “peace”; yet spit and degrade on others who believe differently than they do. Ha!

Over the last couple of days, Barack Obama has sharpened his attacks on John McCain and mocked the Republican’s recent calls for reform after days of listening to nervous supporters fret about his chances of taking the White House in November.

This new, aggressive attitude from Obama comes after losing substantial leads in almost every poll; and increased pressure from the DNC to step up his game. It’s kind of sad if you think about it. The man who positions himself as bringing “hope and change” to Washington is now playing that old political game. It’s gotten to the point where he is now attacking Rush Limbaugh; and I am beginning to wonder if he is behind the hackers who broke into Sarah Palin’s email account. Hmm, I wonder.

On a side note, is raising taxes really patriotic? Joe Biden must be choking on his shoe right now because his foot is so far in his mouth! ha.

Sarah Palin’s Babe Factor

September 10th, 2008 Conservative Cutie

By now I’m sure everyone in America has heard the news- McCain’s running mate is, to quote Zoolander, really really ridiculously good looking. What’s been most surprising to me, as an attractive woman in my own right, has not been the odd, sexist “V-PILF” website (meaning Vice President, I’d Like to… you know), but the amount of time supposed feminists are spending demonizing her for being attractive.

If Obama can be on magazine covers, why not Palin?
If Obama can be on magazine covers, why not Palin?

Barack Obama spoke sexism best when he said Hillary Clinton could “do it, and do it better, and do it in heels… I still don’t know how she does it in heels.” Everyone laughed, of course, but I had to take a minute to wonder how one’s choice of footwear could possibly be a handicap to overcome. If Hillary wasn’t comfortable in her pantsuit and heels, wouldn’t she wear something else? Hillary probably lost the democratic primary for no reason other than a bunch of men not thinking a girl can do a “man’s job”, and the media called that sexism. So why is the media getting away with calling Palin’s looks dangerous and an unfair advantage?

Since television coverage became widely used in presidential elections, Americans have generally been electing the guy with the better face for TV. That’s why youthful Kennedy won, why former movie star Reagan won, why handsome and caddish Clinton won (and we know how that one worked out for America…) and why well spoken and funny, good ol’ boy George W. Bush won both times he was up against a cardboard Democrat with poor speaking skills. Up until McCain announced he’d be running with Palin by his side, that guy in this election was Barack Obama. You’ve seen the I have a crush on Barack Obama t-shirts, you’ve seen the Obama Girl youtube videos, and I know you’ve seen certain liberal pundits say that when he speaks a “thrill” runs up their legs. Even Oprah is in love with him.

So, now the playing field is leveled and Republicans have a hot running mate. Obama, angry that he’s not the election’s sexiest movie star anymore, has started firing back by saying “If you put lipstick on a pig it’s still a pig”. Now, you can say that this remark is referring to the McCain campaign’s supposed attempts to dress up the same old policies by spinning them in a new light, but anyone who knows anything about Sarah Palin knows she’s a self-described pit bull with lipstick. Voters, if you’d been paying attention at all and had your listening ears on you would immediately see the parallels in Obama’s comment to Sarah Palin. This is probably more Obama’s speechwriter’s fault than Obama’s himself, but if every other candidate is burned at the steak for things that come out of their mouth it’s our duty to hold Obama just as accountable.

Feminists, remember when you burned your bras and insisted that women could wear whatever they wanted (by which you meant pants) and still be just as capable? Well, Palin, like most Republican women, likes heels and skirts. She’s a big girl and it’s her right to dress herself. There are a million clothing options at the malls of America and it’s a little unfair of you to cry foul because Palin happens to look good. She’s a pretty woman. Get over it.

Goodbye Olbermann and Matthews: You will be missed

September 8th, 2008 Urban Conservative

You will be missed by your’s truly and your 300+ viewers of your less than mediocre coverage of this year’s 2008 Presidential Election.  It looks like the “real” journalists in upper management were getting tired of your leftist rhetoric being portrayed as objective journalism.

Yes, MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of a very close presidential election. This follows increasingly loud complaints about Olbermann’s anchor role at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Olbermann, who regularly attacks Bush and McCain on his “Countdown” program, felt “truly inspired” and praised the acceptance speech of Obama.

He drew some serious flak last Thursday when the Republicans played a video that included a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, saying that if the networks had done that, “we would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize.”

It is also widely believed that the angry chants of “NBC, NBC, NBC,” at the Republican National Convention after Sarah Palin took a shot at the mainstream media were inspired by Olbermann’s leftist views.

Air America is always hiring and at least there you don’t have to pretend to be objective.
