UrbanConservative is on Wikipedia

March 4th, 2008 Urban Conservative

Yup, that’s right. I’m ‘bout to brag a little bit.  My Best Conservative Blog directory list made it on several Wikipedia pages, most notably on the “Conservatism” and “Conservatism in the United States” pages.  I actually found out by accident when I was checking my metrics and noticed a spike in web traffic by about 100%; and they all came from Wikipedia.

But you can’t expect anything less from an awesome conservative writer like myself and those who contribute to this blog. Here is a screen shot, in case they take it down anytime soon!  : )

  1. Does that mean we can start getting weekly (if not daily) new posts?

  7. Justin W.J.'s comment is interesting in two ways.

"Waterboarding" is, arguably, a form of torture. In a way, it reminds me of rubber hose techniques, which inflicted pain, but no lasting damage - or, to the chagrin of lawyers, marks to show.

Each is an effective way to extract information from people who didn't want to talk.

And, each made the ethical standards of the interrogators open to dispute.

I have the gut-level response to "rubber hose" that any properly-conditioned American of my generation should. I even think that it may have been mis-used.

I haven't made my mind up about waterboarding. Waterboarding Will give decades of American Studies classes and United Nations speeches an emotionally-charged example of American Atrocities Will probably prevent at least one major attack, letting thousands of people live out productive, loving lives But, I'd hate to tell the survivors that their sons, daughters, wives, husbands, significant others, and main squeezes died, to preserve the nice name of America.

  10. About waterboarding,

An expert in the field of modern "torture" or interrogation techniques has stated that waterboarding and other methods are not interrogation because they are not life threatening or physically debillitating and they are no more dangerous than methods used on OUR OWN TROOPS in training.

    From some troops:

Of course we don't torture our own troops. So how are we to get info from these radical fools if we can't make them a little uncomfortable.

And congrats Urban! I wish you the best on a great blog!

  11. Congratulations!

It's both a bizarre and somewhat disturbing feeling of sorts when you get on as a person (like I was). You also seem to have very little control over changing it, as well, so even when stupid and inaccurate stuff gets put up - too bad - it just kinda stays there....

Enjoy your fame... but remember - the sun provides both light and heat... the light is fun... the heat can sometimes be a bit much. :)

As for Waterboarding - given my wiki post ( - you'll understand and forgive me for not commenting... :)

    Congratulations! on the wikipedia thing.
I have checked out a lot of conservative blogs and they are ussually impenetrable, or all opposittion commentary is expunged. Your site on the other hand has true dialogue. I do this because I'm trying to figure out how "you people" have failed to get a clue. You are running at 27% or so right now, which is fine, as you have stated in your guidelines it is important to have intelligent discourse(sic). I've tacked on to this string because you are trying to have a rational discussion about torture here (I guess) "waterboarding is like a rubber hose beating" or some such crap. Where in the gods name did you all find it possible to cross this line? Plain and simple - we don't do that because our society has risen above that. (pre Bush) It is not about one individual with some dirty little secret. It is about our collective concept of justice. Something that you feel in your bones as an American, that if you've been wronged by the system eventually you will be vindicated. I know, sounds pie in the sky, leftie pinko, " why can't we all get along" hyperbole. But that is exactly where it needs to be - a principle, a goal, the elevation of humanity above the petty wrongs and rights of individuals.
When American troops overran the concentration camps in Europe in 1945 they were stunned beyond belief, not that any one individual could create such a horror, but that it was so obviously systematic, endemic. The natural end point of your parsing on torture. Lord of the flies? What makes America great is our ability to withstand any ancient assault from any ancient arbiter. We could be sitting pretty in Iraq right now, make both sides feel like fools, come to their senses, if we just stood back and said "OK have at it, you've obviously got some bad blood here, call us when you're done and we'll help you pick up the pieces.", but the stubborn puppet fool Bush, insists on settling it now, his way. This is endemic of a new American norm "instant gratification" which is less noteworthy. In both WWs we stood by and let the antagonists duke it out for awhile before we got in the game, after we had been punched in the nose a few times. That reticence was the very source of the world's trust in the concept and reality of America.
Here is your chance now to renounce torture period! You can still be an A.H. conservative and decline the invitation to the slippery slope of dehumanization at the same time.
Imagine this conversation between two Jihadist's out in the desert. "Achmed what should we do with this American soldier we've captured?" " I don't know Rahjiv, if we make an example of him and slice his head off for a video feed to Al Jahzeerah, they will hunt us down like wolves." (Where's Osama
Or, "Rahjiv remember what the Americans did to our brothers in Abu Gharib?"

No matter how you look at it it's wrong, not because were wimps, not even if it's justified, It's wrong because it's BARBARIC!!!! something we have supposedly risen above, as a collective culture. All of these people, with their ancient hatreds live in this country side by side with the full knowledege that those prejudices are less important than the collective concept of justice (whats left of it) here is more important.
I apologize for any lack of coherency - wisdom tooth aching to come out - self medicating with demon rum till monday morning visit to dentist, Hiccup!

  13. What's the matter? Cat got your tongue? Let me repeat myself for the sake of clarity. TORTURE IS PERFORMED BY EVIL, GUT LESS, COWARDLY, CRIMINALS! Haven't you ever watched any movies in this century or the last?

How are you liking your rock-bottom US Dollar $ 3.65/gallon for gas? You all are right Iraq war it's not about oil, IT"S ABOUT MONEY STUPID!!!!!!
