Obama tells supporters – Argue and get in their face

September 18th, 2008 Urban Conservative

And I say, bring it on!

I am always up for a good brawl. It kind of reminds me of when I went to Berkeley last year to protest the insanity of Code Pink and their quest to kick out my beloved Marines from their recruiting station. Those chicks were not afraid to get in our faces, that’s for sure! It also reminds me of the anti-war rallies in San Francisco where the libs chant “peace”; yet spit and degrade on others who believe differently than they do. Ha!

Over the last couple of days, Barack Obama has sharpened his attacks on John McCain and mocked the Republican’s recent calls for reform after days of listening to nervous supporters fret about his chances of taking the White House in November.

This new, aggressive attitude from Obama comes after losing substantial leads in almost every poll; and increased pressure from the DNC to step up his game. It’s kind of sad if you think about it. The man who positions himself as bringing “hope and change” to Washington is now playing that old political game. It’s gotten to the point where he is now attacking Rush Limbaugh; and I am beginning to wonder if he is behind the hackers who broke into Sarah Palin’s email account. Hmm, I wonder.

On a side note, is raising taxes really patriotic? Joe Biden must be choking on his shoe right now because his foot is so far in his mouth! ha.

Why isn't anyone talking about Obama trying to secretly delay a troop withdrawal agreement while publicly shouting for a speedy one?  This should be huge news.  And its not just an internet rumore.  The Iraqi Foreign Minister announced this.

"now playing that old political game" ?!??!

Encouraging debate amongst voters is the old political game?  Since when?  If you mean fabricating stories and feigning outrage to try and score points, that is the "old political game" that McCain has been playing the last few weeks.  Even Karl Rove has gone on the record that McCain's ads have been dishonest.

Now that's saying something.

Why the hell was Sarah Palin even using an UNSECURED private e-mail account to conduct official business?  What is she trying to hide?
(I wonder)
Yeah, Obama will have trouble polling good numbers as long as people believe ol man McCain's silly lies.  He'd like us to believe he's a Maverick, but between him and Phil Gramm, they've really made a mess of things.
Yeah, a maverick.......all Hat and NO Horse!

"...reminds me of the anti-war rallies in San Francisco where the libs chant 'peace'; yet spit and degrade on others who believe differently than they do. Ha!"

Weird, reminds me of how the McCain camp keeps saying they want a clean race all the while pulling punches.  I was thinking more like a schoolyard bully that realizes he's about to get his head handed to him and starts screaming "I was just kidding!"  No more kidding.  No more pulling punches.  It's game time and the McCain-Palin fantasy is coming to a quick end.

I'm not understanding the whole "dems want more taxes thing" - I've paid more or about the same in taxes during both Bush's and less under Clinton. And my father paid more taxes under Regan [showing my age :)]

I think the difference is what the taxes go towards.

Calling Obama a socialist is a bit much obviously. Universal Healthcare to the rest of the world is called "I-love-it-that-i-don't-live-in-fear-of-something-out-of-my-control---care." What else is he a "socialist" on? Can't remember. But anyways, I understand the fun of name calling. I'll get into it eventually as well. But again, I'm a hippy-liberal-wuss so my name calling will be soft.

Ouch. The question about Zapatero came after a series of questions on how McCain sees relations with Venezuela, Bolivia and Cuba. He said he would not speak to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez "without any sort of preconditions, as Senator Obama has said he would," and said Chávez was "depriving his people of their democratic rights." He judged Bolivia's Evo Morales as "very similar" and also condemned Cuba's Raúl Castro. When the questioner said, "Now let's talk of Spain" and asked whether he'd invite Zapatero(The Prime Minister of Spain.....an ally of ours),
McCain responded with a vague statement that he would meet "with those leaders who are our friends" and then cited Mexican President Felipe Calderón as an example. The questioner tried several more times to steer the Senator back to a clear answer on Spain, but McCain never directly addressed the nation, saying, "What I would say is that my record is that of someone who has worked in a friendly atmosphere with those who are our friends and faced up to those who aren't."

Does he not know he has just straight up dissed the Prime Minister of one of our Allies!
An idiot for a Chief Executive?
What about all this shit I hear about experience?
Is this experience?

So, I guess you oh so smart liberals are going to "get in our face"?  And do what?  Spit out trite rhetoric and pedestrian logic?  Yawn. The problem is half of you know more about Sarah palin than you do about Obama, and the other half could max out your cognitive blessings and still count opposing thumbs as your greatest job skill. What I find deliciously ignorant is the flabby storytelling of the terminally condescending blogger class among you. Ya know, the Columbia uber dilletantes and the Sarah Lawrence  grad in flannel & a trucker cap types. You seem to miss gaping holes (in logic). How is it that McCain showed poor judgement and a lack of respect for voters by naming someone completely unknown, yet before you can say "Marsha Marsha Marsha", the media is absolutely certain that Palin is _________insert immature histrionic obloquy here.

Hey UC, your article said:  "I am beginning to wonder if he (Obama) is behind the hackers who broke into Sarah Palin’s email account. Hmm, I wonder."

Now UC, if you want the truth, you must read the Huffington bloggers.

They say this is a "Rovian" Republican trick, all set up by Karl Rove and the Republican so that Sarah Palin can get more sympathy from voters, or that she is hiding incriminating emails from Troopergate, or that it is a diversion to change the subject away from the economy.

Here are some of the comments:

"This looks like a Rovian tactic to me. To take the attention away from the dire state the economy is in and focus in on some bogus e-mail scam. Rome is burning, my friends. Wake up!"
"It was either Palin, Bush or Karl Rove. McCain would not know how."
"IT'S A TRAP. DON'T FALL FOR IT. IT'S A KARL ROVE TRICK. The McCain campain is trying to change the topic away from the economy.
Remember the "alleged" hacking of Joe Lieberman's web site which was later proved not true.
Remember the forged letter about Bush's national guard service.
Spread the word to other web sites."
"Could be. And what a convenient "reason" for Sarah Palin to delete the accounts, now isn't it....

She gets to remove potential evidence of her wrongdoing, and come out looking like the victim at the same time.

It's a WIN WIN"

Karl Rove......now doesnt that make more sense? Aren't you proud to be a full fledged member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy?

And it is precisely because you aren't the least bit embarrassed to express this laughable  bon mot that the Democratic party cannot win an election outside of the wifi range of a Manhattan Starbuck without forty acres and a mule..... or a carton of KOOLs at the very least.

I am in the financial world, not a part of the mortgage crisis, and have a good understanding of the economic plans of both candidates and what is happening around us.  That is the biggest issue that we face besides protecting our country.  Today Biden set the record straight on what is expected from the folks who make 250K or more and said it was time for them to be patriotic and give more of what they earn to the government.  what in the hell does patriotic have to do with anything?  The cost of living in some parts of the US are 2 and 3 times that of other cities, and families need higher incomes just to survive.   they have kids that need to be sent to college too!  folks in higher paying jobs employ people!  it is that simple.  if Obama/Biden take more from them, they will lay people off and/or raise the prices of goods they sell.  i'm talking to owners of small businesses and that is what they are planning because they won't be able to keep their businesses open.  do we need higher unemployment?  that is the real story.  do other issues, except for security, compare to higher unemployment and higher prices for middleclass americans????  it is interesting that democrats either sidestep these facts or want to "stick it to the man."  What good will giving about $1,000 more a year to the middle and lower class if they are unemployed?  How is $1,000 going to feed a family and pay the mortgage?  I haven't even discussed how the stock market will drop even further and no one including the middleclass will have enough money in their 401k plans to retire.  does it matter that raising taxes for a certain group of people affects everyone negatively including the folks that Obama/Biden say they are helping.  How many more hits can our economy take?  It was refreshing to hear what i already knew.  Biden seemed proud of it--go figure.  we may have jobs now, but we may not if Obama/Biden gets into office.  If it were left up to Obama, us hard working regular folks would never be able to retire or save for our futures.  Both sides are at fault for not paying attention to wallstreet.  This has been going on for so many years.  Everyone in Washington is to blame for not protecting the economy from such greed.  Of course, folks who choose to live beyond their means and are not responsible for their own debt should be accountable also.  Because of this irresponsibility, the vultures on wallstreet took advantage of it.  There is blame everywhere unfortunately on BOTH SIDES.  I hold Bush and responsible along with the SEC and Congress.  This started so many years ago and continued to get worse until it finally blew up.

War of Bush's. How can a party with such 2 dimensional cartoon logic be so condescending?

Do you liberals realize that there are still a whole lot of yocals who remember explaining to their 7 year olds why people were jumping out of the World Trade Center or that those pictures on the news about Iraqis were really Kurdish villagers who got their lungs melted by Sadam Hussein.

And every time you call it "Bush's" war and procede to tear down the leaders of your own country, all the yocals recognize that A) you embolden tyrants to think we haven't got the stomach to stop them and B) If Jesus Christ himself came down from heaven and promised you everlasting life if you just had a beer with any GOP president and went twenty minutes without spewing invective, you be chanting "wing-nut wing-nut" in hell and chest bumpin Beelzebub.

Raising taxes is patriotic?  I don't know, I'm pretty sure the plan to lower the taxes for everyone making under $250,000 a year is pretty patriotic, and asking those who can afford to live an extremely comfortable lifestyle to contribute more is not unreasonable.  The concept, to me, seems pretty simple: if you make a lot of money, you can probably afford to give more away and still maintain a relatively high standard of living, as opposed to allowing those who make more money to keep it, and those who make less (and may not share the up-to-par lifestyle) to pay more.

I am lucky enough to have dual citizenship. It was as obvious to me five years ago that America was headed for an economic melt down in the near future (as obvious as Bushes WMD claim was ridiculous).  Three years ago i sold my business took my money  and belongings and moved to australia. I did not want to go, but after three questionable and expensive wars, ( war and tax cuts, go figure) out of control economic policy, and the rights unwillingness to negotiate, and love it or leave it/with us or  against us mentality (fight to make some change and your un-American or a socialist) I figured it was time. I love my country and have questioned the wisdom of this move many times. From a purely financial standpoint it was the right thing to do, though I feel a little like a rat deserting a sinking ship. I have just started a new company and i will be doing business in the US. I want to support my country but i am lost as to how. again when i tried in the states i/ we were always marginalized. now all i can do is shake my head and say stupid fucking repulicans. i need a smoke, a drink and a lay.

Re:  So Americans should be beholden to the ruling rich class......and if we don't do their bidding,
well, they'll just move offshore..........yeah.....THAT'S PATRIOTIC!

Neither is true!  However, we as Americans are free to choose if and who we work for and whether we would start our own business and become one of the "rich."  that is one of the many freedoms we enjoy.  The rich want to stay in business and small business owners LIKE MY DAD, who is not rich but Obama classifies him as such, have to make choices.  My dad has to stay in business to feed himself and his wife and put a roof over their heads.  (by the way he started from nothing.)  He earns the money and pays a shit load of taxes already and doesn't need the pressures of having to make a decision of closing up shop or going bankrupt.  how fair is that?  He lives in a rural area where there are no jobs and most folks are on welfare.  However, he is able to employ about 35 people.  He is not greedy and considers his employees as family.  So what should he do if Obama gets into office and raises his taxes?  I guess he could pass the increase to his customers and charge higher prices.  He would prefer not to do that but, it would be another option.  of course, he would lose business that way, and employees would lose their jobs.  Other small business owners that i know are thinking the same way.  They are definitely not "rich."  I guess they are screwed and the employees are too!  No one seems to care about that side but it is a vital part of our country.  this economy cannot afford it!

hey david you  seem quite able to have a discussion  with these creatures while maintaining a dispassionate rationality, quite commendable . I on the other hand hate them, and i mean real hate, I hold them responsible for the demise of our economy and ecosystem (not to mention the untold dead from all the wars). I guess what i am asking is, do you see any movement ,are they coming around or is this becoming an ideological line in the sand, (as my position has  become) that will not be crossed .

Amber:  i agree with part of your statement below.

"and yes in time of war it is "patriotic" to raise taxes, thats how we share the bourdon of the war effort instead of  passing it on to future generations stupid fucking republican"

of course, we all have to understand what the classification of "rich" means.  however, since this is a democratic society, we all should share the burden and not just the "rich" because the "rich" are not all "rich" as you can tell from my earlier blog.  I'm a proud republican and definitely understand that we all need to participate in supporting our country.  there are a lot of folks who love to make up excuses of why they are not "rich" and can't make enough money to pay more taxes.  Isn't that what you guys think folks like me should do--only work to pay taxes to support others and not be able to support ourselves and our families?  This is a free country, and unless a person is disabled, etc., the average person has choices of earning more money or not.  i chose to go back to college and get my degree along with my masters because i didn't want my son to suffer because of my stupid choices.  Of course, i was a divorced single mom, worked full time, went to school and took care of my son and i didn't ask for handouts from anyone.  I didn't sleep but it was definitely worth it.  i got tired of working two meaningless low paying jobs!  why can't others do the same????  is it because those who don't chose to earn more are somehow too good to work as hard as i do and better themselves as i did?  Most folks have choices--if and how many children they have and what careers they chose.  however, it takes effort if you don't have support, which i didn't have.  I was poor and now i'm ok.  so others can do the same!  and i don't chose to say "f...... democrats" because i choose to have better forms of communication to discuss these subjects in a more productive manner.

Do you believe everything your told?  Wise up my man......our country is in a crisis brought on by Bush's lack of leadership and McCain's support for deregulating investment banking.
If your dad makes over $250,000......trust me, he ain't gonna die, he can afford a tax adjusted to pre-Bush levels.  With a $10Billion per MONTH war going on, and a tightening of the capital market......  how exactly are we going to pay down our $9TRILLION debt?
Do we just keep passing debt on to our children?
How about our infrastructure?  Should we just say "screw-it"....let it crumble?
It's time to think Jack and stop listening to others........look at where we are and how we got there.  We have lots of tough choices to make.

So to comment on someone's post about those who live more comfortable than others can afford to pay taxes.  The above proves that theory wrong.  keep in mind, my father pays over $1,600 a month for him and his wife for their medical insurance (high deductibles) and does not have dental insurance.  they pay out of pocket for every dental procedure and high deductibles for their medical plans.  Of course, it would be a total disaster if the government provided insurance for everyone as we know they can't manage a damned thing!

David --

no, i don't believe everything i'm told.  however, i look at the whole picture and not just part of it.  by the way, i think that Obama's plan will actually end up raising the taxes of everyone!  i definitely know that if Obama has his way and raises the taxes on businesses, layoffs will occur and prices will rise to cover the costs.  companies do this, especially in a bad economy.  your comments prove that you are very judgemental.  how do you know what my father has to pay out?  believe me, they are all necessities and he works 7 days a week with major health issues.  don't judge until you know the whole story about someone's life.  for once, trust me--he can't afford it.  i think you need to stop listening to others.  both candidates plans will put us into more debt even though both parties say that is untrue.  ha!  imagine both sides lying!  hmmm!  that is a first.  however, Obama's plan is the most aggressive leaving us with more debt than McCain's plan.  I agree we have a lot of tough choices to make and ALL of us should do our part to help.  Smaller government and closing the loopholes of big corporations, cutting unnecessary entitlement programs, etc. will definitely be a better way.  In addition, people need to start being RESPONSIBLE for their own lives and actions, i.e., living below their means, not having children they can't afford, making better financial decisions and planning, etc.  so you are saying that all of the small business owners that I have spoken to that are thinking about closing their businesses are not going to further hurt the economy?  Some folks will just be pissed off and close their businesses for spite so they won't have to pay taxes.  People will be out of work there too.  Those people can definitely afford to pay it but will refuse.  i know people like that too!  how does raising taxes encourage people to start up businesses?  it doesn't!  by the way, you are judging me with the "man" comment!  i'm a female and that is my nickname!  lol!  i guess we can continue to agree to disagree!  you definitely test my arguing skills!  ha!

i don't think my most recent post went through so here goes again.

Amber--you are wrong.  i'm a proud conservative republican and so are my family members.  The biggest issues that concern us are the economy and the protection of our country.  taxes are a large part of our economy.  without those two things, no other issues are possible to address, but that does not mean the other issues you mentioned are not important.  I also don't want my son to worry about supporting me in my old age.  IT IS NOT HIS RESPONSIBILITY OR ANYONE ELSES!  IT IS MINE SO I HAVE TO PLAN.  that is what we all should do, and it would solve a lot of our problems.

Amber -  Amber has obviously never taken a debating class.  Using foul language only turns off the people you are trying to REASON with.  Then again I see no "REASON" in your arguments.  So I guess I'm not surprised by your utter inability to bring a coherent argument to the floor.  By the way, in debating class there is a golden rule.  the first one to bring up Hitler, LOSES!  It shows desperation.  How fitting for you.

Obama can get as aggressive as he wants, it will only hurt him in the end.  He cannot win an election by running AGAINST John McCain or George Bush.  He can only pull off a miracle (and it would be a miracle) if he stays above the fray, and sticks to his campaign platform of turning the page on old politics.  If he is perceived to fuel code pink and acorn nuts and other subversive commies, it will only reflect badly upon him.  He'll be shown to be a hypocrite to middle America.  I believe this is already happening and OBAMA making statements like that above will doom him.

As the Financial crisis unfolds and the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION is held to the scrutiny that they escaped, it will be curtains for OBAMA.  When the corruption of the CLINTONS & CRONIES and how they have ransacked Freddie and Fannie for their  personal gain, and the political pressure to get the financial institutions to write loans to people who had no business qapplying for that loan.  Remember when CLINTON said that house ownership should be a right?  Well, he tried to make good on that RIDICULOUS premise, and this is where we are today.  Actually, in this particular case you are seeing OBAMA style politics at work.  Always the same results.  The farther away you get from free market principles, the worse things become.  it may not be the fairest system in the world, but it is the best.

McCain is ahead in the polls.  McCain WILL pull to an insurmountable lead.  The GOLD STANDARD of Presidential question as to who is more qualified to be Commander in Chief:  McCain LEAPS ahead by 45 points.  45 POINTS!  That's an ABC poll so you can probably throw another ten points on there.

OBAMA is reeling backwards, he has no resume, he has no experience, he's had no jobs, run no businesses, created no legislation, shirked his Senatorial duties to run for President.  Missed tons of important votes.  He picks a seminal LOSER of a VP.  Now he says he doesn't mind a fight.

The funny thing is you could put Sarah Palin at the top of the ticket, and she would beat him.

The democrats are so intent on being hip, they screwed the rightful candidate out of contention.  HILLARY won the primaries hands down, and the GOOD OL BOY DEM'S kicked her to the curb.  Anyone think the race would be this close if HILLARY was the nominee?  I don't.  That's what happens with a party based on "fair weather" idealism and not substantial principles.  One twists you in the wind, the other anchors you down for every situation.  That's why REPUBLICANS regularly clean the DEM'S clocks.

So like Dave Walters said in another thread, I'll be waiting for November 5th, oiling my guns.

Amber, my dear. There is an economic principle called comparative advantage. In the legal world, its called highest and best use......thinking and communicating with words isn't yours.  Perhaps you could expand on this self described slut angle.  A talent for consumer discretionaries augur well in a tight environment. And think of the money you'd save on shoe leather.

Comparative Advantage, my dear. Embrace it. You have the right to ride any political position you wish, however, you are woefully unprepared to attack with your words, let alone persuade your ideas. Perhaps you can persuade with less temporal assets.

Oh, and I'm down for a good fight.  It will alleviate the stress I've experienced these past few weeks over McSame and Falin's Mickey Mouse candidacy.  I'm sure you're all fired up and ready to do the same- I mean, your party actually managed to pick a weaker ticket than you did in 2000 and 2004 and you must be feeling a little stressed out too!

You fail to recognize that you are up against the party that consists of the segment of highly educated Americans who WORKED for their degrees (not like a blue blooded Bushy) and those who WORK in the factories.  You haven't seen a fight!

Democrats have wussed out in these past two elections and let it go to the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY as a result. I think the tide has changed. Hmmph...brace yourselves.

Smack down,harrysmom!

And HoBo is spreading the falsehood that the world somehow envies our failed health care system!
Didn't Canada enact a waiting period in residency to protect themselves from being overwhelmed by Americans seeking Basic Health Care?

And HoBo.....Fanny Mae & Freddy Mac are not the reason for this present investment banking meltdown.....it's the DE-REGULATION of the banking industry authored by Phil Gramm, supported by John McCain....
In fact:
"Last night Fox News’s Hannity and Colmes, former governor Mike Huckabee emphasized McCain’s past as a dergulator who would allow the market to “correct itself”:
Huckabee: Regulation isn’t the answer to this. In fact, if we go back and overregulate and tinker with it, we’re going to do more damage than we are in terms of a fix. … John McCain has a long history of being against an overreaching government, regulatory environment. It’s a dangerous place for us to go, and what we need to do is recognize the marketplace will correct itself. It’s painful, but it will correct itself. - Watch it
Huckabee is right that McCain “has a long history of being against…[a] regulatory environment.” He has consistently opposed the kind of robust regulation and oversight that could have helped prevent the current crisis.
“I am a deregulator. I believe in deregulation.” [CNN, 7/13/03]"
http://www.republicansforobama.org/?q=node/2343
Now ol John McCain is a populist PRO-REGULATOR!
Talk about flip flops.......Maybe you can tell everyone who John McCain really is HoBo.

Harrysmom....
i'm not as certain as you are about the outcome of this race.
Republicans are so good at re-defining things....and working on fears among Americans.  They can de-regulate the banking industry and then have John McCain appearing as a populist demanding regulation of this institution, and firing the SEC chief!  They may get away with it.

All republicans(and conservatives) have to do, is place a label on an issue...
("TAX AND SPEND Candidate")-a lie.......

Or bring up the specter of Jimmy Carter ("Worst HISTORICAL President"),
when in fact, had we followed his advice:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/carter/filmmore/ps_energy.html

We'd be well on our way to
ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, instead, Reagan started us on the road to dependence on mid-east oil and all the political and military blow back that is directly related to it.
But to pursue Carter's energy plan, we would have had to degrade our reliance on the oil industry, something the oil lobbys and their friends in every administration since then with the willing help of congress.... have foisted on the American people.  The worst president ever?
George Bush!
And John McCain shares most of his vision and values.

So HoBo,
Should we or should we not deregulate the banking industry?
I take it that you favor deregulation, yet your candidate in this fight is now against deregulation.
Isn't this a major flip-flop?
I mean, John McCain has ALWAYS been against regulation of banking....
and actually placing banking deregulation author Phil Gramm
(of the The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act)

as his chief economic adviser..........

And now John McCain/Palin are wearing the hat of maverick status, yet they are riding a hobby horse.  Ye-Ha!
They are yelling about Freddy&Fanny, but the meltdown was due to NO oversight brought on by this Gramm-Leach_Bliley Act!
".............Reckless conduct and unbridled greed on Wall Street"
ol man McCain says, yet he helped engineer this reckless conduct and unbridled greed.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
is the mechanism that allowed Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and all the other failed institutions to provide all the bad loans that are out there. Fanny&Freddy is just a symptom of the problem just as the failure of all these institutions are a symptom of The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act's
"Turn a blind eye" to greed and corruption in the banking industry.
John McCain's history of support of banking de-regulation is clear.  What is not clear is what he bases his new found support for de-regulation on.

*****************************************************************************
Well well well. I dig the swagger harry'smom, it's hot. But capitalization  is a poor substitute for reason. I hate to  be the messenger of bad news, but your highly educated segment seems to  feel that the best way for them to help Obama is to play Russian roulette in the media with Palin, her daughter, her special needs baby and the public. Not only that, they seem hell bent on a three-peat championship.

Perhaps there was a course at Harvard detailing a sure fire political strategy of attacking a popular governor on the personal attributes that made her popular, thereby alienating and insulting the proletariat. What's the secret? Are you going to hypnotize me with your Phi Beta Kapa pin?  Sprinkle some magic MENSA dust over the polling booths?

Please by all means, bring me the argument. Don't tell me about how smart it is and how tough it is if you need a New York Times editorialist to write it for you. Bring it. We wing nuts may be all aquiver, but I gotta tell you, I think our side can square off with the biggest brains you've got.

You've got a glass jaw paper messiah for a candidate. His hands are soft and smooth. ACORN Picket signs are not that heavy. I managed to earn my sheepskin by operating heavy equipment in the fields of fly over country and by skating rings around the priveleged little Lord Fauntleroys of Ivy league icers.

Ah...good times. I recall engaging one such puckster thusly:
After failing to persuade me with invective, This "Love Story" reject (hint..that means he played for Hahvad)...mistook my skating ability for a lack of pugilistic aplomb. I squared my blades, cocked my helmet and thumped him like a Southie on a $50 hookah in Faneuil Hall. I'm quite certain they didn't teach him up at tony St. Paul's how to secure the jersey immediately and pump knuckles to face like a jackhammer.
Sometimes I'm such a knuckle dragging troglodyte. It's fun, but the erudite gasbag desk job pays better and besides, how many puck bunnies can one person bang before they start looking for a tight, well trimmed mind, firm little arguments, and a huuuuuge vocabulary. Now THAT's sexy.

Too damn bad I didn't play for Alaska Anchorage. The puck bunny doesn't fall far from the tree I see. Sarah would have been right at home at the post game parties. Play some Van Halen, Tap a keg, Tap a bunny....God bless America.

"the meltdown was due to NO oversight brought on by this Gramm-Leach_Bliley Act!"

Mr. Walters:

So the problem is that GLB has no teeth? Hmmm. Interesting. One would think that with no teeth, the previous Executive would have been hard up for some ahem....legislation with  no teeth.

No, the causes of the credit crisis are many and far too complex for you to understand, so I won't bother. I'm not writing a 700 page post that will go over poor Ambers head  like presidential cuff links over the head of a page giving Presidential head.

But I will tell you that a big cause lays at the feet of a man from whom I once purchased a pair of Allen Edmunds pebble grain golf spikes. Mr. Raines had a big ego and a wife with big blonde hair and big expensive tastes....but he had tiny feet. I filled out those shoes far more snugly. Not sure, but if the fit of the shoes were any indication, I would have filled out that wife more snugly too.

Franklin lined his wallet at work not on the golf course. The story starts there

It's fine that you have your opinions- but some of your statements above are just plain absurd.
"McCain is ahead in the polls"...well no, actually he is not.  you might like to think so but facts- (you know those pesky little things that always seem to gum up your thinking?)... as of yesterday, when the most recent polls were released- indicate that McCain/Palin (or if you are listening to Sarah: the  "Palin/McCain" )are slipping rapidly.
"OBAMA is reeling backwards, he has no resume, he has no experience, he's had no jobs, run no businesses, created no legislation..."  Obama is not only ahead in the polls- not "reeling"- he has years-YEARS- of experience in a multitude of areas- whether that be boots on the ground, helping individuals educate themselves and re-train themselves to not only maintain their dignity but also to become productive members of working america,  (and, I hate to break this to you, hoboblah, but this was a job.  Obama became director of this organization two years later- other jobs included teaching constitutional law, elected to Illinois legislature, and elected to the US Senate.
Legislation that he sponsored and was PASSED and SIGNED INTO LAW have been noted here elsewhere- with the notation of co-sponsors- one of which was McCain.   Try to keep up, hoboblah.
"HILLARY won the primaries hands down"...actually, no she didn't.  The nominee is selected by delegates.  Obama had the most. He won. Even Hillary knows this. So does the rest of America.
Again, hoboblah, it's those pesky facts that seem to be your problem.
Obama's selection of Biden for VP was an excellent choice.  Very knowledgeable in foreign policy. Very respected in the Senate.  A man of principle and high standards.  A man ready to step into the shoes of the presidency should this ever be necessary.  Quite the contrast to McCain- who, while claims of "maverick" fly from his lips- his actions are proof otherwise- not only did he do 180's on major issues to pander to his need to gather in the religious right and neo-cons, he dumped his first choice for VP (yet another non-maverick move) to pander to (read beg) what he thought were disenchanted women by bringing in a selection whose "experience" is questionable- at best.  A woman who continues to block an official investigation (which began long before her selection as VP) looking into abuse of power questions as Governor.  A woman who spent a week on the campaign trail - locked to the hip of McCain- and shielded from the press  because she is so NOT qualified- they could not allow her on her own.  Even at this, they wrote a stump address where she continued to spout absolute proven lies regarding the "bridge to nowhere".
McCain's claim that his "expertise" in foreign policy is so bogus it would be laughable if it weren't so serious.  His lack of geography knowledge, his lack of understanding who is who in Iraq, his statements regarding the "Soviet Union" and " Czechoslovakia" are well known- and yesterday his lack of knowledge of who is the president of Spain- these are just a few problems with his lack of current knowledge of the world and world leaders.
His statement that the economy was not his forte' has proven true over and over and over again.  His wandering statements have been like a freshly caught fish flopping about on the pier...from one day to the next he is lost and floundering madly (and badly).

I want to thank all of you Republicans for your campaign advice.  Carl Rove has been going on tv giving out free tidbits of information that I'm SURE Obama is following to the letter.  I think the Democrats have some campaign advice for the Republicans too:

-switch your platform at the last minute to immediate withdrawal from Iraq by letting everyone know that Palin will personally fly over the country in a helicopter and take each and every Iraqi man, woman, and child out with a high powered rifle.  If she can take down a polar bear in the snow, Baghdad is nothin'!

-promise every male swing voter that if elected, Palin will blow them.  (I'm not kidding!  That might work!)

- promise that those families that end up on the street because of Bush's economic failures can go and stay at one of McCain's nine houses!  He's got room.

- how about if you commit to trying Bush for war crimes?  That might even get you MY vote!

McCain has been seen for what he is: a fraud.  nothing else.
... a man out of touch with the world- both geographically and politically, a man out of touch with everyday people, a man out of touch with current economic problems and the world-wide problems involved, a man who has shown poor judgement over and over again- whether it be his VP "choice",  or his ads that started out as negative and now border on slander with misrepresentations and lies, ... his justification for this ? he repeats that  if Obama had only done the town hall meetings like McCain had suggested, it would not be this way.  that's not just dumb, it's pathetic.
McCain is like the singer who stayed on stage long after the voice had gone.
Again, you cannot include the same ingredients and expect to come out with a different end product.  McCain does not understand this concept.

First, let me apologize graciously.

I misspoke when i referred to McCain being up by two (2) points.  That makes it seem as if it was derived by a single poll, which as we all well know can be slanted any which way.  No, the accurate poll data has McCain up by two (2) points averaging out seven (7) national polls.  Far better accuracy there, although the results are the same.  More importantly one (1) out of every ten (10) voters has changed their minds since the Democratic Convention.   OBAMA has been slipping ever since.  This tells you which way the voters are going.  The landslide has begun, and as the "INTELLECTUAL ELITISTS" start to FLAIL WILDLY, it will get worse.  For all your self congratulatory praise (no one else will give it to you, hence your frustration),  you guys can ALWAYS be depended upon to self-implode.  Which is what is beginning RIGHT ON SCHEDULE right now.  Nice apology huh.

Again, on the COMMANDER IN CHIEF question, McCAIN is up by FORTY FIVE (45) points!!  Now, while you incredible geniuses don't put much stock in that question (ever wonder why?), the rest of us "knuckledraggers" do.  With russia in economic death throws and Iran getting ready to light a firecracker, OBAMA would say, "GOSH, let's talk".  It's laughable.

About the Banking Crisis (and it is a crisis)  The CLINTON ADMINISTRATION as it will be shown, will be shown to be the ABUSERS of banking de-regulation.  My belief is that the heads of the Democratic party will stave off any investigations until after the election.  The exposure will burn the Dem's so bad, that come election day, people will know who will be President before they even vote.

Let's put aside the BLAME GAME for a sec....
Given the facts of our economic meltdown present tense reality, who in their right mind will vote for a guy whose whole campaign has been about TAX and SPEND.  REDISTRIBUTION of WEALTH?  There won't be any wealth to distribute.  People are starting to pay attention to the markets like never before.  Their eyes are opening, they are worrying about their IRA'S and Money Market accounts, their retirements.  It's permeating into the lives of at least half the country.  That's about how many people own stock.  If you have stock and you are not reading the "Business News" daily, then you should quickly get in line for the upcoming Stock Market Government bailout program.

The U S Govt. has just spent 14% of our GDP on these assorted bailouts.  That's a chunk of change folks.  It will reverberate through our economy for quite a spell.  The fallout is far from over and if you have been paying attention, Detroit Auto is next in line looking for a handout.  All of this portends very badly for OBAMA.  OBAMA is stuck on his SPEND CAMPAIGN and it will do him in.  We can't afford an OBAMA now.  Never in my opinion can a any country afford to install as a leader someone with NO EXPERIENCE or ACCOMPLISHMENTS.  He's a nobody who dresses nice.  Sweet, but hardly Presidential timber.  More like kindling.

I guess that will save time and we can all oil our guns.

out.

And, no I don't think I'm a lot smarter than you or the other liberals trading trite bumper sticker logic here. It is a metaphysical certainty. Confidence is critical to independence and success. This is why Sarah Palin has been more successful than most liberal women in politics. She has confidence and the optimism that goes with it.

You can never lead while your in someone's face, nor can you rightfully complain about halitosis. When Barak told you to get in our face, what'd you expect? French kisses? I'll need a few more Obamatinis in me to cross that Rubicon.

If you wish  to discuss politics maturely, go ahead. Take a chance. I'll respect that. But if you come with the idea of getting in someones face and being confrontational from the jump, you gotta be ready to get it back just as rough and raw as you give it?  Slow and smooth or rough and raw. Your choice. I go both ways.  Maybe we should establish a safe word? Howabout.....Libertarian?

Hobo-hoe:

Apology graciously accepted, although if you google “presidential polls” on this very day and click on “news,” you will see that the first headline of the day reads: Barak Obama surges in US presidential polls. Furthermore, CBS polls show that 65% of voters believe that Obama will bring change to Washington, as opposed to 37% who believe the same of McSame (that’s UP 9 points after his big flip (flop) to the change message he took during his convention).

1 out of 10 voters have changed from Obama to McCain after the GOP?  Funny, I haven’t seen those numbers, but I did see the one about 2 out of every 5 undecided voters leaning towards Obama after the farce in the Twin Cities.  Do you only watch Fox?  Just checking……

Yes, the landslide has begun and us “intellectual elitists” are flailing wildly to the sound of change, true and humane change, towards a fair and Christian society where you ECONOMIC ELITISTS don’t get to bully the little guy into paying off the debt on your laissez faire screw ups!
Gracious acceptance – uh?

Nobody is calling anyone a knuckledragger, but if you know your scientific history I think we could all say that we have a little knuckledragger in our DNA.  It’s just that some of us have evolved a little more than others- and to think your girl doesn’t want our children to understand that concept.  Wonder why?

Iran very well be ready to light more than a fire cracker love, and our dilapidated and depleted military resources won’t likely go very far in helping us out.  Once we get rid of the “Dutch Boy,” maybe we can collectively take our fingers out of the dam and try a little diplomacy.  That’s the difference between us:  INTELLECTUAL ELITISTS use our minds and words: ECONOMIC ELITISTS try to use their money to get themselves out of tight jams. Intelligence always prevails – haven’t you read Aesop?

The fact that you attempt to tie Clinton to the Bank crisis is so laughable that I can’t even respond.  You are inane to even try that – and sadly, you know it.
You seem to lack a basic understanding of economic theory, which makes it near impossible to not speak down to you, so I won’t.  Therefore, I really don’t have much to say except that each and every thriving economy is grounded in fluidity.  Sometimes it occurs organically (which the basis of the laissez faire, or trickle down, philosophy) and sometimes it occurs through help from the government (just like we saw on a colossal scale yesterday by your boy W).
So let me get this straight.  You oppose taxes being deducted from your paycheck, but you are fine with the government committing trillions on money that may not come directly from your paycheck, but will be passed on to you in the form of higher college tuitions and a diminished infrastructure?  If you are ever on a bridge that collapses and hurls your family to it’s death, please remember saying that and think if that extra $10 deduction on your last paycheck would have been worth it.  Okay?

Taxes or no taxes, it flows through your pockets and puts food on your table.  Be thankful- there are people in this country with no food and no means by which to see a doctor.  But you ECONOMIC ELITISTS don’t understand that.

I think that you need to rethink your support of McSame.  You sound as though you are willing to rationalize anything for a candidate WHO SAT IN WASHINGTON FOR THE PAST 26 YEARS AND ALLOWED ALL OF THIS TO OCCUR ON HIS WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!  McSame has supported 90% of Bushies initiatives and now he’s trying to be the agent of “Change”?  C’mon really.  I mean, c’mon?  Are you serious?  pshhhhhhhhhh.

I guess that’s all that my intellectual elitist mind can afford to impart on you at the moment.  I’ll go sharpen my claws.

later.

In today's economy, 2+2 = 0.
As far as UC is concerned, 4 is not acceptable when someone makes the effort to write well researched responses.
For awhile, I thought that Urbanconservative was THE PLACE. Now I realize you guys are a bunch of morons. You just cancelled out a response that reflected genuine thought...something UC appears to have a problem with.

Whoever it was that failed me on that challenge...you are a total fucking asshole. Have a nice day.

Yeah, between the banking problem ("So HoBo,
Should we or should we not deregulate the banking industry?")
and the $9TRILLION the government has siphoned away from the capital markets, i wonder if there may be a credit crunch?

ML ..
Corny comments aside (read above), I don't think anyone deleted your post. This has happened to me frequently as well.  I don't know why it happens unless traffic is hitting the server at the same time and we get dumped.

To avoid:
Do a quick right click on mouse and copy before sending, then if you fail the challenge you can back pedal and repost with no loss of data, or temper.

The first time it happened to me was on a long post which solved most of the world's problems.  I didn't bother to repost and now we all must suffer in infinite sorrow.

Dave,
You don't seem to get it so I won't bother.  The dem's are already walking away from your talking points on de-reg.  I've already told you why.  Watch and learn son.

And yes, of course i would privatize SS.  Who thinks building up a MASSIVE DEBT. to give people a 2 % return on their money?  An incredibly bad idea with good intentions.  My dog can paw her way through the Wall Street Journal and give me 2% profit picks.  No need to send my money to wash. for the same return.  Then again, i opted out of SS long ago (you can too).

out.

HOBO,
I LIVE ON SOCIAL SECURITY (Disability).....and VA disability.
So there ain't lots left over for investment.
But don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with investing.  But this notion that this country revolves around corporate interest is something to be seriously analyzed.
I've made it a point that all Americans must share the burdens of making this country work.  Workers in America are some of the most productive in the world.  Our strong military helps protect investments world wide.
Corporations have a responsibility beyond making a return on the investor's money......for they are part of this nation too.  It's true that they could move offshore, but is that really a "patriotic" thing to do?  Seems kinda like a spoiled kid if you ask me.
So HoBo, not to put you down, but seriously........YOU don't get it.  We are not here just to serve corporate interests.  Corporations have a duty to the nation that provides the environment for them to prosper, just as private citizens have a duty to their nation and communities.  This is what is known as "Corporate Citizenship".

The main reason I hope Palin/McCain wins in 2008?

The sweet, sweet taste of the liberal tears.

Also, the insane contortions they'll go through to claim voter fraud and the dominance of "this is a racist country" will be good fun, too.

Although I don't know if I can weight eight years to vote for Sarah Palin for president. That's gonna take some patience.

I forgot to mention that 4 years of Palin in the political spotlight will reveal the liberal's naked, ugly misogyny a lot more dramatically and permanently than a single political campaign will.

BTW, Bush's Social Security plan was an opt-in to put a small percentage of your social security contribution into a private account that belongs to you, rather than the government. It was not a bad idea, was not draconian, and would certainly be good for the young'uns just getting into the job market, though unlikely to benefit the oldsters. Which is why, no doubt, AARP said: "Screw you damn kids! We're gonna get ours! Uh, I mean, you know. For the children."

I am sick and tired of the current crop of conservatives offering up cheap, low quality candidates like Palin. There was a time when McCain had integrity. But not any more. He is clearly pandering - and we conservatives need to own it. Palin is a dimwit. McCain has sold his soul. There is no way I would vote to put her in office, and I am frankly ashamed of my Party.

It is time to grow up and be honest.

I see Conservative guy is a life tine conservative, and lo and behold he has changed his mind.  Right, must have got the talking points.

He did not pick Palin just because she is a woman.   He picked her because she is a Conservative and a reformer.   She is much more conservative than McCain and excited the conservatives in the Republican Party.   And all the Left's temper tantrums and all aou assault on her is energizing the conservatives even more and pushing more and more Democrats away from the Far LEft policies of Obama

AS Reagan, LAdy Rothschild, and the Donald would say, "I did not leave the Demodrat PArty, it has left me".

Ted F: Thanks for recounting your glory days, but the only thing you have proved to me is that you are jealous of guys who played hockey for a team whose mascot is a Pilgrim.  Was I supposed to feel sheepish after that?  Harvard is full of privileged Republicans!  You seem to have some misplaced anger.  Let me clue you in:  Liberals tended to play sports or support teams with mascots like Golden Bears, Rams, Hokies, and Tar Heels.  Nothing too fierce but could kick a pilgrims ass any day.  *And you shot a puck into a hooka?  Impressive!

I'm getting from you, and some of the other conservatives around here, that you are all of a sudden trying to be the "working" class party.  Ha Ha!  Aside from the fact that I'm a sociologist (I know!  that explains EVERYTHING- right?) and I am extremely well versed in the wealth and income distribution of the American public by party identification (I should have stuck with my Republican roots and married a rich man), let me share a personal story of my own with you...

My eldest daughter dated a boy for the duration of the fall and spring semester this past school year.  Very very very conservative boy from a very very very wealthy family attending a very very very expensive private school (it was her form of rebellion).  This boy tried and tried to engage me in political debate, but frankly, he was out of his league and I was too polite to embarrass my daughter's guest.  One day he looked at me with a straight face and told me that because the blue blood families of America were, for the most part, Republican, the Republican party would always run the country because the poor and stupid farmers and factory workers appreciate the fact that the rich do more charity work than the middle class.  That about sums it up.  Republicans suck.

I would suggest that if you are, like you say, a 'workin' man', then you really ought to rethink your support for McSame and throw all of that wonderful pithy humor and clearly sharp intellect into the corner who is really and truly on your side.

Peace out babe.  Sorry if Janet (?) shot you down, but I'm sure there's a better brunette just waiting around the corner.

Hey, I may disagree with you, but if you served then you're OK in my book. If you do have any investment money left over, here's a tip. DON't invest it in "active" mutual funds. Buy indexes if you want the best combo of risk/return and low fees. If you do want to take a chance on higher returns.....stay away from penny stocks no matter what you do. They are almost all crooks. I ruin them whenever I can.  Buy shares in Luecadia (LUK), its a company and a management team that any liberal can support. These guys are freakin geniuses and they are HONEST. In 1998 before the crash.....they didn't dump all their stock into the market.....they returned it all to shareholders and told them the market was way too high.....talk about balls. I love those guys. They are the next Berkshire Hathaway.

Hey not all conservatives are evil ya know. I want rich guys who didn't work for it and don't give back to get hammered like everyone else. I don't measure people by what they've got, I measure them by what they are willing to give.  Too bad there isn't a way to match the hard working  rich with hardworking poor cuz I'll buy them a beer, a pizza and storefront to sell them from and the rich bums and the poor bums can duke it out in the streets over who's the bigger bum while me and the honest Joe kick ass in the pizza biz.

God bless hard workers.

Uh-oh. Are you trying to seduce me with your feisty collectivist ways? What about Sarah, though?  The head of our state GOP promised me some alone time with her.

What is the Democratic position on a woman's right to expensive lingerie?
I can't get behind someone who doesn't support the right to wear 3 oz. of silk that cost more than a week in Aspen.

Are there any really hot Democratic women anymore? I mean like smokin hot, don't ask don't tell,  meet me in the limo in 5 minutes kind of Democratic women? They all seem so angry and sullen these days. Where are the devil may care, let's go for it Democrats?

Whoa there Tucker Max!  Are you flirtin' with me????????

I think if we got into a pissing contest about the hotness of liberal vs. conservative women, a quick Hollywood check might tip the scales.  However, I think we can both agree that the bandana laden vegans who wear their hearts on their sleeve are just as much a turnoff as the puff paint laden, hot dog eating pro lifers who wear their uteruses on their sleeves.  Any woman who equates sex with politics can't be much of a thrill between the sheets- anger and sullenness isn't hot coming from any angle.  I will add that liberal men make better lovers hands down - your equation of "banging" to "consciousness" is reveals that fact.

Collective consciousness doesn't mean if you ''bang'' one liberal woman, you have ''banged'' them all.  It means that if your children are getting less of an education than my children, then my children's education is diminished.  If each American lives up their rights and responsibilities, regardless of their economic, intellectual, or physical ability, then each American deserves at least a sliver of the collective pie.  Equality not of who we are, but what we do.  That's the collective conscious.

As amused as I am that I seem to have given you a political boner, I ask that you get the blood rushing to your second head and consider what is really is that our fighting men and women are dying for.  It's not you, and it's not me.  Its both of us.

No one is stopping anyone from getting the pice of the pie.  there is not a finite amount of money.   If someone gets paid more than someone else, that does not mean tha the pie is smaller for other people.   That is the fallacy of marxism.   It is a joke to tink that way.

And if you want better education for your children, why are Liberals against the voucher system.   Then you could go to any school you want your children to go to.  And it will make the Public School change and get better.  Competition will always be better than having a monopoly on educating our children.

I could care less who is hotter, conservatives or liberals.  That has no bearing on what will happen  to our country.   And why would I want to sleep with anyone from Hollywierd, they are all shollow people that have no clue on what is going on in the world.   They are intillectual light weights that get their news from HUFFPO and other left wing sources/

Stix- my post wasn't directed at you, so why are you weighing in?
Fallacy of Marxism?  Well how about Domhoff?  it's a pie sweetie, and it IS finite.  Yes, our treasury just this week printed off some Monopoly money to bail out the Republicans on Wall Street, but eventually we little people have to produce enough widgits to replace the paper.  Go read Econ for Dummies and get back to me.

The voucher system is bad bad bad because those who are able to put more money on top of the voucher (and there will be many) will be able to buy their children a better education while those who can't plop a little cash on top of their vouchers will be left in a system that is now depleted because of the vouchers.  It will create more inequality.

Competition is good on the football field and maybe in the pick up bar, but when we are talking about children's lives I'm not willing to play chicken.  And shame on you for equating the two.

Stix,
The republicans/conservatives  have made it their business to gut public education monies- and then point at the public school system saying they are doing a poor job. They install a program claiming to leave no child left behind- that left nearly everyone not only left behind but also scratching their heads.  Instead of rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to get back programs in public schools (like music and art), instead of fighting for important programs like Head Start, the G &T programs (gifted and talented), A+After School Care- they pull their kids and place them in private schools and then demand that the government provide them tax credits or vouchers for opting out of what is free.
Yes, I have a big problem with vouchers.  Knock it off with your selfish "all about me" attitude. Try to be an American for once.   Try to think of your fellow Americans.

Whgy do we still pay the second most on Public edution compared to all other Western Countries and it is still in shables.   Money has nothing to do with it.  It is the monopoly the Teacher's Unions have control over our education system,   You cna not get rid of bad teachers.

And you got to be idding me if you think there is a funite pie out ther in our economy.  That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard from anyone.  Anyone can make it in America.   There is nothing stopping anyone from getting out of poverty other than themselves.  If they put their mind to it, anyone can accomplish anything in America.

No Chid LEft behind was Kennedy's plan and Bush followed him over the rtoad with this boondongle.  It was a travisrty to any conmservative.   Education should not be a Federal job, local and State should be the ones that .

Man whty do I even try.  You guys think that there is a finite pices to the American Dream.   What BS.   And that giving more money will fx everything.  them mopre money you give the more the unions will get, not any better education.   We have been throwing money ate schools for years and it gets worse and worse.

Let me giove you an example.   Every kid in Chicago get about 3 times the amount of money going towards eucation than where I live.   But Chicago has a much higher drop out rate and are lower on ACTs ans SATs.  Why????  It has nothing to do with money, it is the people that are teaching and the unions that protect these teachers.

I give up,   you guys can live in the Utopian Obamaland where Unicorns live and there is money at the end of the rainbow, but I live in the real world.

And one more thing.  Public schools are not free. It comes froim me you andeverybody in taxes.   It would go to better use if kids can get out of the failed schools that Teacher's Unions protect.   Do you k ow that over $1 billion a year goes to teacher's unions?????   That is to the Union bisses and dees not go to any child.  How deos that help the children????  Do you know that schools also inflate school classes to get more money from governemnt????

Public schools are funded by local property taxes.  That's why the public schools in wealthy neighborhoods provide better outcomes than public schools in poor neighborhoods.  You are the most uniformed political blogger I've ever encountered!

Yea- Kennedy had the idea 20 years ago.  If you take nothing away from this lesson (and I should be charging you tuition), you should understand that government is relative to culture and demographics.  As the culture and demographics of the country changes, so should governance.  That's Thomas Jefferson's philosophy, and it still rings true.  Please stop bringing up lessons from your 11th grade history book as arguments.  Your ignorance is showing.

You are really stuck in this 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' and "American Dream" mentality.  However, while you have been tucked away in your upper class cocoon you may have failed to realize that millions of Americans don't have any boots to wear and a house, two cars and a plasma tv has turned into the American Nightmare on Elm Street.  You may be okay with that- I mean, your 'I got mine' and 'competition is good for you' perspective might work for you in your comfy mansion, but it bothers me deeply.  And that is why I'm voting for Barack Obama.  Because he will be a president to everyone, not just the privileged few.

Okay Stix, so you are one of the poor saps who supports the party that oppresses you because they sell you on an ideology that makes you feel better than the truth.  I run into this all of the time.

Remember- WE are the party that's supporting a Black guy. Don't go passive aggressive on me.  I know that women and people of color can be very successful if they have a leader that fights for them (like Obama will).  However, under your boy W., they make less money for the same work and receive less benefits from their tax dollars - and that in and of itself creates an inequality that is difficult to overcome.  You are not optimistic, you are living with blinders on.  I am optimistic, because I believe that CHANGE in Washington with OBAMA will steer us in a new direction.

Again, you have erroneous information on the money spent in urban schools vs. suburban schools.  Can you show me your data because a quick analysis of the reports from the Dept. of Education will show you that YOU ARE FLAT OUT WRONG.

Seriously, you are the most uniformed political blogger I've ever encountered!  Not only is your logic flawed, but the information that feeds your logic is wrong.  And that, people, is the recipe for a Republican!

Dave cannot of course.  Poor Dave, still swinging at the windmills?  Careful you don't lose your balance.

The admission of Joe Biden says it all.   Again, the self proclaimed "incredible geniuses" at the Democratic National Committee once again walk into the bear trap.

If I.Q. were doled out in percentage of national election results, all of the democrats would be riding the short bus.

Once again into the breech eh you Banshees?  LOL.

Here is how it breaks down (almost every recent election).

Republicans will tell you that the culture is what needs repairing.

Democrats will tell you the political machine is what needs repairing.

As the election draws near and the race gets predictably tight (typical), the democratic "NUT JOBS" come out of the woodwork and show the "undecided" that indeed it is the CULTURE which is in need of repair.  They need only witness the daily vitriolic and apoplectic verbiage on the TV and the news and at the office.  It becomes self evident and the Republicans are given the nod.  Then the MEDIA turns on itself and the Democrats for embarrassing them.  It's quite funny and wholly predictable.  Oh yes, and Alex Baldwin SWEARS he's moving out  ..  but he doesn't  ..  again.

OBAMA has fallen into the bear trap.  And unlike  Joe Biden, once the DEM NUT JOBS are called out they cannot be returned to their origins.  It's like releasing a pox.  It can even destroy the one who released it.  We'll see.

By the way, most of the people at fault with the housing meltdown are working with OBAMA.  that's nice.  Gives me confidence in his decision making.

I'd rather be selling Oil then buying it.
We need to stop buying Oil from the people who don't like us and begin selling it. The only other thing they have to sell is sand and camels.                                                                     Wake up everybody, we are going under, our country is bankrupt. Gary......
You'd like us to believe that:
"We need to stop buying Oil from the people who don't like us and begin selling it. The only other thing they have to sell is sand and camels."

But who started us on this road?  In 1977 President J.Carter tried to explain to the American people that we were facing an energy crisis.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/carter/filmmore/ps_energy.html

"Tonight I want to have an unpleasant talk with you about a problem unprecedented in our history. With the exception of preventing war, this is the greatest challenge our country will face during our lifetimes. The energy crisis has not yet overwhelmed us, but it will if we do not act quickly."
Fast forward 4 years "......And Ronald Reagan's first official acts of office included removing Jimmy Carter's solar panels from the roof of the White House, and reversing most of Carter's conservation and alternative energy policies. "
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0503-22.htm

At this point in time (1981).......we began importing massive amounts of Saudi Oil.  Great idea!  Now these same ideas, from many of the same players, are trying to sell Americans on the idea that with 3% of the world's proven oil reserves, we can drill our way to energy independence.
Too bad Reagan threw out conservation and innovation as a plan for America's future.  We are now paying the price.  Wake up my friend and engage the brain!

Yes we are in an energy crisis and the ban on offshore drilling just ended. So drill baby drill. Let's have more wind farms, more nuclear energy, more hydro electric power, more shale development, more solar and photovoltaic cells. We need to expand in every category. For those who think oil is not the solution, it's there now, so lets use it until it runs out and another type of fuel is in invented with enough supply needed to run our vehicles and power our homes. I would imagine nuclear power could produce enough hydrogen to power our vehicles and be cost effective and clean burning at the same time.  Wind, Solar and Batteries can power your home today and when the initial cost is paid, the rest is free. The technology is here today so if a small group of 'save the whatever' get in the  way of progress, just act like they're not there and keep moving forward. Eventually they will give up.

About this business concerning Obama's remark re: "Argue and get in their faces," I am still trying to understand what the issue is here. The lead article is incoherent and says nothing substantive about anything relevant, unless we consider the author's testosterone overload as something we should take seriously. Comparing his remark to behavior of those "libbers" is evidence of one thing - ignorance. We all know what Obama meant...question, stand up for what you believe and don't allow yourself to bullied into political submission.

If I trusted Obama, I would vote for him, but I do not and never will, even though he may say things that make sense at times. If I trusted McCain not to hurl us down the shute of fecal distortion and unbridled aggression, I would vote for him, but based on his childish behavior in the debate, I cannot and never will.

So who do I vote for? Well, perhaps I should vote for the Socialist Labor Party candidate, since we are headed in that direction anyway.

To harrysmom: "Drill, baby, drill?" Are you out of your mind? The only drilling taking place is the big one going up Uranus as the powers that be fill you with a lifetime's worth of taxpayer debt. And any administration that is arrogant enough to introduce a buyout bill administered by a new King of Finances is clearly well layered with criminal intent. Oil? Where do you think we can find enough oil of our own to free us from the grip of nations intent on seeing us die a slow and painful death?
The new slogan should be "Dill, baby, dill," because as David Walters said, we have gotten ourselves into one fine mess.
ML Smith,
Slowly turning into Ralph Nader as his thinking is clearly unsound at any speed.
